GIZ-SEARCA Climate Leadership Programme Wraps Up: Envisioning Better Land Management in ASEAN

SEARCA and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH-Climate-Smart Land Use Project recently concluded the GIZ-SEARCA ASEAN Climate Leadership Programme (ACLP) with a virtual closing and awarding of certificates to 27 participants from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Designed as a Leadership Journey, the two and a half-month online program aimed to strengthen key leadership skills in initiating and facilitating change processes and collective cross-sectoral transformative action in climate-smart land use. The online leadership program consisted of the following modules: Module 1 – Introduction to the ACLP; Module 2 – Strengthening Your Knowledge Base; Module 3- Sensing and Presencing Journey; and Module 4- Closing the Journey. The sessions leading up to closing ceremonies were highlighted by the presentation, per group, of the participants' proposed Change Projects to their peers, coaches and mentors, and their respective supervisors who were invited to attend the final presentations.

Minister urges quick building of project on natural forest protection

The forestry sector should take swift action to build a project on zoning off and protecting natural forests in the time to come, said Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong. He also requested the completion of a project initiated by the Prime Minister on planting 1 billion trees in 2021–2025, review the 10-year operation of the fund for forest protection and development, and complete a pilot project on forest leasing for herbal farming. Read more…

Solar Power Use In Myanmar

According to a report by Myanmar’s Ministry of Planning and Finance titled, ‘Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan 2018-2030’, the country penned several action plans to address the climate situation. One of its strategies is to scale-up the use of renewable energy resources in the country. The report also stated that Myanmar will embark on a low-carbon, green economy development trajectory that prioritizes the efficient use of natural resources. Read more…

Mitigating effects of climate change to PH fisheries

To prepare for climate change, the Philippines needs to conduct an assessment of vulnerability to climate change for fisheries at the national level in order to respond to changing economic conditions expected to worsen over time and that the assessment is continuously and periodically carried out, according to Limuel Aragones, Director of the University of the Philippines (UP) Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology.  Read more...
