As the dust settles and the broken glass shards are swept up after a tumultuous week, we view a new landscape. The Senate balance of power will shift, but we see that anti-democratic sentiment and forces are entrenched in the highest levels of government as well as in the general population, and these forces will remain after the departure of the current President. If we allow them to go unchallenged now, they may soon become an insurmountable threat to our democracy. That's why we're asking Rep. Garamendi to call to expel the members of Congress who objected to the certification of the election. Even now, after the despicable actions of a white supremacist mob that invaded the Capitol, some Republican members of Congress continue to spread the lies that inflamed insurrectionists. Some even voted to object to the results of the election just after the attack. These members are not fit to hold office, and we need Rep. Garamendi to make it clear that their lies and inflammatory rhetoric in support of a coup won't be tolerated, and to call for their removal.
After overwhelming calls from constituents for Trump's removal, the House is expected to vote on articles of impeachment this week. Congressman Garamendi was an early proponent of a second impeachment and we should convey to him our support. However, some Democrats are getting cold feet at the prospect of promptly sending articles of impeachment to the Senate for trial after the vote. So we also need to impress upon him the need for articles of impeachment to be sent to the Senate immediately. Regardless of the fate of impeachment in the Senate trial, the clear evidence of reckless and seditious behavior, as delineated in the resolution circulating the Capitol this weekend, cannot go unanswered.
