The Co-Op at 1st is looking forward to continuing and expanding our programs for 2021! That is why we are looking for some new board members to serve on our board for the 2021 year! We are especially looking for diverse voices from the Barnum Community and Billingual Community members. Board members can also be Local Food Producers and Distributors, Business Expertise, Folks with Knowledge about Co-ops, and Passionate Local Food and Community Wealth Builders. Baby Day is coming up and we need YOUR help!!

A Message from our Garden Manager:
Let me BRAG 'CAUSE I AM INCREDIBLY PROUD! Kristina's Dad is a math whiz and he figured these amazing statistics about what our UNSURPASSED neighborhood leaders and garden hosts produced this past year (MY CREW TOTALLY ROCKED 2020!!! So the next time you see Andrew Gilette, Benjamin Collingwood, Gavin Willow, Jenny Uhler, Julie Ethington, or Katy Casper be sure to acknowledge their hard work and dedication!)
The 4794 pounds of food we grew fed 57 people fruit and veggies every week for 27 weeks OR 18,304 servings of fruit and veggies for people in need. It really brings tears to my eyes to know that at least a couple of moms could tuck their babies in at night knowing their little bellies are full and that they don't have to hear, "but Mama, I'm hungry". That's not why I joined Jovial, I just wanted to garden, but that is exactly why I keep at it. I look forward to seeing you in our gardens in 2021 so you too can experience this feeling as well. It is ASTOUNDING!!!

Food Program Update!
Food Bridge is collaborating with The Co-Op at 1st to add culturally relevant prepared meals to the fresh food box distribution program, a pilot program of Partnerships for a Healthier America (PHA). This program is in response to COVID-19, but it has a long-term goal of educating families to cook with more fresh foods and gain confidence in making healthier eating choices. Food Bridge is working with a group of local chefs that are taking turns cooking 300 dinners a week. The meals are designed to be one-pot authentic Latin recipes that are healthy, seasonal, and veggie-forward. A recipe card with easy to follow cooking instructions in both English and Spanish is also included in the box to inspire people to replicate the same recipe at home!
Participants can now pick up their dinners, produce box, milk, eggs, bread, 5 breakfast meals per child, 5 lunch meals per child, and more! To sign up please come to our pickups on Tuesdays from 10:00-6:30 in the East Parking Lot. Please wait in your car at a food program parking spot and a volunteer will assist you.

We understand that assistance programs can be confusing. We are here to help you through the process! If you are a household of 4 and make under $4368 you may be eligible!

We ask during this time if you have any symptoms to please refrain from visiting The Co-Op Market, Classes, Events, or Volunteering. You are welcomed to send a friend/family member to pick up food from our emergency food program or curbside grocery pick up from The Market.
