Greetings all,
firstly, thankyou to those members who have taken the time to tell me how much they appreciate the updates they receive through these emails, Rest assured, they will continue! With so many golf-events taking place in the next few months (Leanne's Day, Club Championships, Pennant, Annual Tournament) I will do my best to keep the communication going.
Men's Match-Play Finals
Saturday saw match-play golf at its best. The following is an excerpt from the report I wrote for the Warragul and Pakenham Gazettes (hooray for cut-and paste!)
In Scratch wily veteran Mark Allen took on Ryan Hammond in a battle of the multiple Club Champions over 36 holes. Mark played slightly better golf over the first eighteen holes to take a two-up lead at the half-time break. However Ryan steadied, taking the lead on the 26th hole. Ryan continued to find fairways and perform well around the greens, to claim the win four and three.
In Division One, the rapidly improving Matt Guy took on Kevin Thorpe. Both golfers were in form, with Matt shooting a net 62, and Kevin net 65 the previous Saturday. In the last couple of years big-hitting Matt has brought his handicap down from the twenties to five, improving all aspects of his game.  Matt headed Kevin through the first eighteen to lead two up, and try as he might Kevin could not bridge the gap over the second eighteen. Matt displayed great mental toughness on the greens under pressure, lagging long putts and holing must-makes to keep Kevin at bay and bring home the bacon four and two.
In Division Two Bryan Delaney squared off against Gary Burns over eighteen holes, in a match which proved to be a nail biter. After being all square through 17, Bryan was able to play nerveless golf on the last, to claim victory, one-up.
In Division Three Steve Smith was looking to continue his current winning form against the affable octogenarian Doug Scott. Despite having to concede a couple of shots over the eighteen holes, Steve was able to keep his ball straight and steady, eventually winning five and three.
Opening of the two new holes
Match and Play Committee have decided to bring the two new holes into play two days earlier than previously stated. They will come into play on Saturday January 30th.  This means they will be in play for Pennant the next day, allowing us to showcase the new holes to the visiting Pennant teams (and maybe give our boys some local-knowledge advantage!) The official opening of the new holes will take place on....
The Leanne Bambridge Memorial Day.
Entries are now open for the third Leanne Bambridge Memorial Day, on Friday 5th of February. The format of the competition is 3 person Ambrose with a 11:00am Shotgun start. This has quickly become a popular day of golf and celebration of our memories of Leanne. Please enter at the Pro-shop, and keep an eye out for flyers with further information at the club. Be quick! The field rapidly reaches capacity, Our four esteemed Life Members, Anthony Bambridge, Shane Dwyer, Rex Greenland and centurion Edna Cropley will take part in an opening ceremony at the site of the new second tee at 10:30am before the shotgun start. All players and club members are invited to attend.

Finally, can I remind members of the importance of conforming to Covid-19 rules on-course and in the club house. This includes the non-handling of flag-sticks, and the use of face-masks when not eating and drinking in the club house.
Regards,
Captain Jim
