Remote Education update
Dear Parent/Carer,

Firstly, I hope that you and your family are keeping safe and well and are managing this latest national lockdown.  I wanted to inform you that, late last week, the Department for Education (DfE) released further guidance regarding the expectations of remote education.

The DfE has made it clear to all schools that they expect students in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (Years 7 to 11) to complete a minimum of five hours per day of remote education.  We have, therefore, had to make a change to our Remote Education Plan and we will now be asking teachers to set work following students’ normal timetables.

Most of us are also parents and we understand, from first hand experience, the challenges of supporting children to do school work at home.  This is why we have introduced the morning sign in on pastoral Google Classrooms, so that students will get into good routines, with a structure to their days.  It is also why we will be making weekly contact with home, to ensure that we are supporting you and your child in these difficult times.

Mobile phone data increase scheme

The DfE has recently launched a scheme to enable students to access the internet to undertake remote education. We are able to apply, on your behalf, for mobile phone data increases through their scheme. I have included details below which explain the scheme and would appreciate it if you could read the terms and conditions, which include the information the DfE requires and will share with the mobile provider networks. So far, we have submitted over 20 requests for an increase for our students, however not all networks are currently on board with this scheme.

If your son/daughter has difficulty accessing the internet at home to engage in remote education, due to having limited data, please provide us with the details below, to the main College email account admin@sjhcsc.co.uk

The number of applications is limited by each network, so a quick response is advisable; we would like as many parents and carers as possible to have this opportunity to apply but we cannot guarantee that your provider will support our applications.

Information needed is:
  • the name of the mobile phone account holder for the data to be added to
  • the telephone number
  • the mobile network operator e.g. EE, Vodafone etc.
  • whether you are on Pay-as-you-go or a monthly contract
  • Confirmation that you have read the terms and conditions below

https://get-help-with-tech.education.gov.uk/increasing-mobile-data/privacy-notice

Finally, it may be useful for you to know that Google Classroom can be accessed via an XBOX or a PS4.  We will add further information on this to the pastoral Google Classrooms, to help students who wish to access remote education in this way.

With thanks for your ongoing support.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs D. Stanton
Assistant Principal
