Last week, Russ Muse shared the beginning of the series on the Lord's Prayer, from Luke 11:1-2.  Here are some key points:
  • Jesus spent the bulk of His time praying. Of all the things the disciples could have asked of Him, they asked Him to teach them to pray.
  • Prayer is simply a conversation with God.  It involves listening, not just telling Him what you want and what you think.
  • We often think of prayer as initiating a conversation with God. But we should expand this to include God initiating a conversation with us.
  • God is going to put Himself on display.  He invites us into that process.
  • Pray for boldness and a continual filling of the Holy Spirit.
  • Remain in constant communication with the Father.
"Hallowed be Thy Name" is a cry for God to do something ...
  • Make Your name great.
  • Make Your Name known.
  • Put Your Name on display.
"Your Kingdom Come"
  • The kingdom of God is here. It's not about His return.
  • Bestow peace on people who receive you.
  • We experience bits and pieces of the kingdom already.
  • Pray His kingdom will break-in.
  • Open our eyes to see kingdom glimpses now.

What's Next?  The Lord's Prayer

This Sunday, SPEAKER will begin our series on the Lord's prayer.  We will continue to provide summary notes each week, in addition to the following study tools:

Passage Links
Reviewing:  Luke 11:1-2
Preparing: Luke 11:3-4

Manuscript Version: We are happy to provide a manuscript version of each week's passage to assist you in further study.  Each week we add the latest passage to the document, building as the series goes on, to make this easier for you. Click here to print your manuscript version.

Homework:  Please read Job 38-41 slowly (for those who didn't do it last week, and it doesn't hurt to read again!)

Sermon Review Question: (Questions are also posted on our private church Facebook group for those who would like to interact there during the week. Not on Facebook? Feel free to reply to let us know your thoughts!)

How have you seen glimpses of the kingdom recently in your life?

Prize Alert: On Monday, we will do a random drawing out of all the responses we receive either by reply email or on the FB group. We may also share some responses anonymously in next week's newsletter.

Butler Road Improvement Project

On Sunday, Russ talked about the upcoming Butler Road Improvement Project that could have some impact on our church (particularly the Bethel Drive Intersection part of the project - see map).  Russ has recorded a video message explaining more for us here and you can also visit the Buildingabetterbutler.com website for more information.

We will need 50 people from our church family to write into the DOT to express their thoughts/concerns about the plans during the official comment period that goes through February 5, 2021 and have provided materials for you below.

Click here to access the folder with the following:
  • Map of the project
  • Sample comment
  • Blank fillable form for public comment which you would email to
    butlerroad@scdot.org

You can also stop by the lobby for more information.

Special thanks to Dan Chism for his expertise in helping us navigate this.
#SERVEMAULDIN  February for Firefighters

Our February #servemauldin project will be collecting items for "Movie Night" baskets for our fire department personnel and their families.  The church will provide the baskets and movie, and we'd like our church family to bring individually wrapped snacks (such as popcorn/candy) and drinks (water, sodas) for the baskets.  Please put your donations into the collection bin by Sunday, January 31st.

We will be assembling the baskets on Wednesday, February 13th at 6:30pm.

21 Days of Prayer through January 23, 2021

We encourage you to fast and pray in this season the way God leads you. Some fast from food completely, others temporarily suspend social media, coffee, sugar, or some other routine habit/activity in order to focus that energy on prayer. The church will be open for quiet prayer on Wednesday, January 20 from noon to 1.
Visit our website and click on "connect" to connect or send a prayer request card online; click on "newsletter" to see the latest issue/archives or to subscribe, or "watch online" to easily transfer to the YouTube channel for the online services.
