Updates on Supports for Organizations

Thank you to the ONN for sharing the following resources that may be of use for not-for-profit arts organizations:

Small business grants

Ontario nonprofits with fewer than 100 staff may be eligible for small operating grants
In light of the provincial shutdown, a new Ontario Small Business Support Grant will provide eligible employers with fewer than 100 staff, between $10,000 and $20,000 if they had to shut down and saw a 20 per cent revenue decline between April 2019 and April 2020. The Ministry of Finance has told ONN that nonprofits are eligible if they meet these criteria.

Utility relief program

Nonprofits may be eligible for up to $1,500 in relief from their utility bills under the COVID-19 Energy Assistance Program as of January 1. Apply through your electricity or natural gas provider's website.

COVID-19 Regional Relief & Recovery Fund (RRRF) open to nonprofits

Nonprofit social enterprises in southern Ontario with 1- 499 staff are now eligible for the RRRF, which provides interest-free operating loans (of which a portion is forgivable if paid in full by the end of 2022). Because eligibility was determined by the regional federal agency FedDevOntario, nonprofits had been inexplicably excluded from the first round despite being eligible in northern Ontario and other parts of Canada. Rural and northern nonprofits should apply through Community Futures

Audience Outlook Monitor: Executive Briefing and Phase 2

Audience outlook monitor logoIn his latest Executive Briefing, Alan Brown shares the latest findings from the Audience Outlook Monitor study. In this session, Alan focuses on recent findings on likelihood of vaccination amongst arts audiences and the role that arts and cultural organizations can and must play over the coming months.

WolfBrown has also announced the second phase of the Audience Outlook Monitor study, launching this month. In light of the recent roll-out of the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines and the likely roll-out of additional vaccines, as well as potential improvements in testing and treatment over the next year, the second phase of the study will focus on monitoring:
  • audiences’ experience with vaccination;
  • attitudes about vaccination amongst those who’ve not yet been vaccinated;
  • readiness to return to live events post-vaccination; and
  • demand for digital programming.
Many of the same organizations that participated in the first phase of research will continue on in this second phase. In addition, a small number of new, disciplinary cohorts will be launched in order to maximize field learning around research findings. In addition to cohort participation, WolfBrown will open the study to a limited number of individual organizations. Individual organizations who are interested in participating in the study should contact Alan Kline, Director, Audience Research Program, at alan.kline@wolfbrown.com to request detailed information.

Throughout 2021 WolfBrown will continue to publish results, both in written and video formats, and explore specific topics through free webinars. Sign up at audienceoutlookmonitor.com for email updates, or follow WolfBrown on Facebook.
