New year messages from the Archbishops
In his New Year message, Archbishop Justin reflects on his experiences volunteering as a hospital chaplain at Guy's and St Thomas' hospital during the pandemic, and where he finds hope for the year ahead.
Archbishop Stephen is sharing short reflections throughout January 2021 on the theme, ‘Our Hope is Found’ as the country continues to combat the effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Prayers of Hope for the World
Archbishop Justin has launched a Lambeth Conference prayer journey that shares ‘Prayers of Hope for the World’. At a time where the world still faces the challenge of COVID-19 - alongside ongoing issues like climate crisis, poverty and economic injustice, conflict and inequality - the prayer journey invites Christians around the world to join in praying for world issues.
Whilst the fifteenth Lambeth Conference is planned for the summer of 2022, during 2021, the conference community will be invited to take part in a series of virtual or regional discussions on some of the conference themes – in preparation for the gathering. Second round of Cultural Recovery Funding
The Government has announced a second round of Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage which is open for applications of between £10,000 and £3m between 7 and 26 January. All churches and cathedrals that have listed buildings and are open to the public are eligible to apply for this funding but there are various criteria set by government in the official guidance.
The Cathedral and Church Buildings team has produced guidance to help PCCs and cathedral Chapters apply for this funding to support them with the costs they expect to face in the second quarter of 2021 as they prepare to welcome back more people as worshippers and visitors. Announcements from the Bishop of Derby's office
The funeral of the Revd Penny Goodchild will take place on Friday 8th January at 1 pm at Swanwick Crematorium.
The Revd Alan Griggs, who presently holds the Bishop of Derby’s Permission to Officiate, has been appointed Agricultural Chaplain with Rural Action Derbyshire within the Diocese of Derby. Mr Griggs will be licensed on Thursday 28th January at 9 am by the Bishop of Derby.

Items available from
St John's College, Notttingam
As you may know, St John's is shortly to close. They have a number of items which they wish to give away to local churches.

The college will be open from Monday, 11 to Friday, 15 January 2021, from 9am to 1pm to collect items. The items must be removed by Friday, 15 January or they will be given to a local charity. It will be first come, first served.
If anyone wants to make a donation to ongoing bursary funds for students they are welcome to do so but St John's are not pricing or charging for items which are on offer.
All items are given AS SEEN.

#LiveLent: God's story, Our story
Building on the success of last year's #LiveLent: Care for God's Creation, the 2021 Lent resources from the Church of England will again mirror the theme of the Archbishop of Canterbury's Lent Book, creating a significant shared focus for the whole Church at the key time of year for people's discipleship and learning in the faith.
The Archbishop’s Lent Book – Living His Story: Sharing the extraordinary love of God in ordinary ways – explores the ideas of story, witness and evangelism. The book will be accompanied by free online materials for groups by Chris Russell, video interviews and more.
The theme for the Church of England’s resources – including daily reflections in booklet form from Church House Publishing and in free app/email/audio form from as per previous campaigns – is #LiveLent: God’s Story, Our Story. The material is introduced by the Archbishops, who write:
“The invitation of this year’s #LiveLent to all of us is to
participate in God’s story. To make it so much part of our
own stories that our own lives become impossible to
understand without it. And then to be tellers of this story,
and the change it has brought to us ... ”
Further details and sample pages from the booklet – written by Stephen Hance, Discipleship and Evangelism Lead for the Archbishops’ Council – are now available.
The booklet – which contains 40 bible readings, reflections and prayers – is available to order individually (£1.99), in packs of 10 (£1.75 each) and packs of 50 (£1.50 each) from Church House Publishing.
Copies of the booklet are being sent to all bishops and a free sample will be sent to all clergy by mid-January. Further details of the free digital resources (available from the start of February) will follow soon.

Faith at Home
For people who are home-schooling the Faith at Home initiative has online collective assemblies and a free resource bank. The material is suitable for all ages to help educate and inspire children.
At the beginning of January, shortly before the announcement about the national lockdown, Nigel Genders, Chief Education Officer, wrote about the need to root ourselves in our Christian perspective on education, especially in the most difficult of situations.

Discipleship Training
There's still time to apply for the next run of our Certificate in Mission and Ministry course starting in mid January 2021 - or to try one module to see how you like it.
The first module is "Called to be the People of God", led by Revd Gill Turner-Callis, and explores God's call to us all and God's to you as an individual. It consists of 7 online sessions plus 3 study days (via Zoom).
