What's going on at TTM?

With the financing of the Kahane Foundation, we are among the institutions supported by the 2020 Institutional Support Fund. We had an interview with the Support Foundation for Civil Society who supports us with mentoring within the scope of this fund. We talked about the activities we will be carrying out as a part of the fund, the effects of the pandemic on the groups we work with, and the highlights of the recently published study ‘Access to Rights of Children in Different Settlements of Istanbul during the COVID-19 Process’. We have completed our work within the scope of the Covid-19 Emergency Support Fund provided by the Support Foundation for Civil Society. Our coordinator Gökçe Baltacı talked about the work we have done within the extent of the fund, our animated film “I’m bored with the pandemic!”, the application guide we prepared with the film, and our plans for 2021 in line with our updated strategies. Our volunteer coordinator Berfin Karataş and TTM Arts Workshop coordinator Selma Hekim met with BÜSOS (Boğaziçi University Social Services Club) on December 10 via zoom. The meeting was held for the Deniz Yıldızı (Sea Star) project of BÜSOS, participants shared their online workshop experiences.

On December 31, we got together with KODA (Village Schools Exchange Network) via zoom and shared our experiences on writing Child Safeguarding Policy Documents.

TTM Kids

The Philosophy Workshop organized for children from Tarlabaşı by Düşünme Karavanı and TTM continues! In December we brainstormed and had fun discussions around concepts such as bullying, finitude, responsibility, and happiness.

As of December, we continued our academic support activities with children online, which we carried out face to face before the pandemic. Children and volunteers come together via zoom at the meetings that aim at supporting children with their classes.

TTM Caregivers

Children's rights talks with caregivers that we started as part of the activities of November 20, World Children's Day continued in December. The meeting, which started with the question of how it is possible to pay attention to children's rights at home, under the facilitation of Melda Akbaş, took place under the headings of hearing the 'no' of children, children's rights to bodily integrity, feelings and needs in parent and child relationships, and emotional literacy. We hosted Hatice Kapusuz for the right to bodily integrity meeting. Meetings will continue in January and February in line with the demands and needs of caregivers.

TTM Volunteer

On December 5, World Volunteers Day, 29 people came together under the facilitation of Bedirhan Çetin, Berfin Karataş, and Naci Emre Boran.

It was a meeting where we discussed the topics of volunteering, voluntary labor, and paid labor through a case study and we had fun and laughed a lot playing a game that tested our drawing skills. Thanks once again to everyone who participated!

A total of 11 volunteers came together at the Gender Training, which was led by Efsun Sertoğlu on December 19. Gender-based violence, the fight against gender inequality, and the #metoo movement were the main topics we discussed.

We continued yoga classes in December by meeting regularly once a week with Ece Örken, a TTM volunteer and yoga instructor.

The Communication and Fundraising Committee and the Women's Studies Committee, both volunteer committees of TTM, held their first meetings in December. A total of 20 volunteers attended the meetings where old and new volunteers came together.

Although we shared our animated film ‘I’m Bored with the Pandemic’ last month, as the pandemic continues and in case you missed it, we decided to include it in this month’s newsletter, too. You can send all your comments and suggestions to iletisim@tarlabasi.org.

Our aim with this film, which is supported by the EU Sivil Düşün Programme, is to support children’s need to reach accurate and reliable information during the pandemic. You can add English, Kurdish, Arabic, and French subtitles from the video settings.
