Re: Proposition No. 1
General obligation debt Landfill Equipment Upgrades

Because uncleared snow surrounding refuse cells currently leaches into our soil, potentially harming our water quality, we qualify for a $1.2 million DEC Clean Water Fund Loan, the terms of which are extremely favorable, and include $500,000 of loan forgiveness.

This is fortunate, because our Refuse Department desperately needs new equipment. The loader pictured above can hardly make it up a hill. The excavator costs more to keep running that it is worth. And a new dozer would let us solve the water quality issue mentioned above and keep the delta pristine.

We will release a lot more information about this Ballot Prop between now and March, including opportunities to meet with Refuse Superintendent Aaron Muma and Public Works Director Sam Greenwood with any questions.

For the moment, though, the long and short of it is this: We can pass this ballot proposition now, and have the DEC foot $500,000 of the bill, with 1.5% interest on the other $700,000, or we can kick the can down the road for another year or two until these machines fail catastrophically, at which point we’ll have no choice but to pay the full $1.2 million at 4% interest.

It’s a no-brainer. Help us keep your Trash bills low. Help us keep the delta clean. Vote YES on Ballot Proposition No.1.
Avoid COVID-19 Vaccine Scams
While vaccination details are getting worked out, here’s what you can be sure of:
  • You can’t pay to put your name on a list to get the vaccine. That’s a scam.
  • You can’t pay to get early access to the vaccine. That’s a scam.
  • Nobody legit will call about the vaccine and ask for your Social Security, bank account, or credit card number. That’s a scam.
Ignore any vaccine offers that say differently, or ask for personal or financial information.

Cordova Community Medical Center (424-8288) and Ilanka Health Clinic (424-3622) will alert the public about when specific populations are eligible for their immunizations through official channels only. This means City-issued public service announcements like this one, the Cordova Prepared Facebook page, The Cordova Conversation, and both healthcare providers’ respective Facebook pages. You may be contacted by CCMC or Ilanka through a person known to you. If somebody other than known individuals from CCMC or Ilanka contacts you directly about your vaccination, do NOT give out any personal information, as it likely a scam.
Feel free to call both CCMC and Ilanka with any questions.
