Dear Valencia Families,
Welcome back and Happy New Year! Hope you had a safe and rejuvenating winter break. Just a few important dates and announcements for you:
GROWTH MINDSET and GOAL-SETTING are the focus phrases that our 6th grade leaders selected for the start of the school year. The students picked these words given that when you choose a growth mindset and set goals, you have respect for, demonstrate responsibility in, exhibit kindness with, and give best effort to your learning. This uses all of our Valencia Values!
What better way than to make this a January month Challenge: Share a Goal!
Tomorrow, Friday, January 15th, from 11:15am-11:45am we'll be treated with a virtual concert by the Banana Slug String Band! This is a fun way to end the first week back from Winter Break. Links/access details coming soon!
Reminder that our 6th grade virtual leadership team will be meeting with Mrs. Lane TOMORROW, Friday, January 15th at 1pm via Zoom.

Lets Talk About Socks -Sock Drive
BIG THANKS for making our sock drive a success last month! 536 pairs of socks were collected and delivered to Hope's Closet in Santa Cruz. Many feet will be warm this Winter.
Don't forget to order your Valencia Yearbook 2020-2021!
Yearbooks are $25 each. Order now and you'll be able to add your own photos and memories into your copy of the yearbook. You can add pictures of friends, favorite music, etc., all of which is printed in your copy of the yearbook. Every yearbook includes two custom pages for free but you have to complete it by April 18th. Don't wait until the last minute.

We are looking for more photos. We are looking for your first day of school, spirit day, art project, class parties, and candid. Don't forget classroom celebrations too!

Ask Nicole: Positive Parenting is Vital to Well-being
Dear parents, foster parents, grandparents, relative caregivers, and other adults raisng children and teens: we're celebrating YOU in January 2021! The County Board of Supervisors has partnered with First 5 Santa Cruz County to declare January as Positive Parenting Awareness Month for the ninth year in a row. Other California counties are doing the same, and the California Assembly will pass a resolution any day now, declaring January 2021 as Positive Parenting Awareness Month across the state.

The Triple P - Positive Parenting Program provides tips and tools to raise happy, healthy, capable children. Triple P is available to families in Santa Cruz County with children from birth - 16 years old, including children with special needs. Small changes can make a big difference!
