In light of the events of the past week and the upcoming inauguration, we have extended the deadline for applications to the Anti-Racism Study Group. Please feel free to contact either one of us if you have questions. We hope you'll join us.

- Francine and Kande

Our goals are to create a learning community where people who identify as white can:

  • Learn more about both the nation’s and their own history regarding race and racism,

  • Be constructively challenged to recognize and question assumptions,

  • Increase their ability to engage in meaningful conversations about race and racism with other white people, with Black people and with other people of color,

  • Commit to anti-racist practices in one of their spheres of influence.

Content: We take advantage of the wealth of multi-media resources available to further our education and as prompts for self-reflection and challenging conversation.
Topics include: history of race and racism, white privilege, intersectionality, allyship, and systemic racism.

Participants:  We are expressly inviting people who identify as white as we have particular work to do. This is not a substitute for participation in mixed race conversations and programs; rather, it is meant to complement that crucial work.

Commitment: Participants are asked to commit to:

  • 6 (90-minute) sessions, meeting every other week
  • 1-2 hours of pre-work for each session
  • 6 (1-hour) peer consultations with a learning partner in between Study Group sessions

Application: Please complete an application to let us know about your learning needs and interests. In addition, applicants are asked to identify a domain of work for implementing anti-racist practices. Participants are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

"This program created the mental space I needed to allow me to see how the systemic racism in our society has shaped my beliefs and presumptions. The group discussions both inspired me to be honest with myself and inspired me to make an active effort to change my behaviors in ways to reduce or mitigate the racist tendencies I have internalized over the decades."
