What do you do to prevent yourself from falling?

Jan 12, 2021 03:37 am | Mary Beth Skylis

Replies: 6 My Dad worries about balance. He does a great job of navigating the house and leaning on solid structures when required. But we worry that he’ll fall when no one else is around. I’ve been looking for ways to keep him safe, regardless of who is home. What do you do to prevent yourself from falling?

Jan 12, 2021 03:35 am | Robert Smith

Replies: 1 There are lots of Examples I saw who are fights with Parkinson’s. During my research, I found many examples of those who fought with Parkinson’s for a long time and they beat Parkinson’s with their “Never Give Up Attitude”. Many active organizations are trying hard to support Parkinson’s Patients. Organizations are giving an extraordinary effort for patients. Don’t get depressed or nervous. There are many organizations that can help you best at their level. Many supporters and volunteers are available that can help you. I just want to say one thing to every patient please never give at any cost.

Do you cook certain meals for your Parkinsons patient?

Jan 12, 2021 03:33 am | Mary Beth Skylis

Replies: 5 One obstacle that many Parkinson’s patients experience is trouble with swallowing. I’ve heard my Dad cough excessively because his coffee went down the wrong pipe. And he hasn’t had to make many dietary changes, yet. But I wonder if there are some meals that are easier to consume than others? Do you cook certain meals for your loved one? Have you found ways to simplify the eating process?

Do you have panic attacks?

Jan 11, 2021 01:01 pm | Mary Beth Skylis

Replies: 0 My Dad (diagnosed in 2013) recently told me that he suffers from a periodic panic attack. When he spoke to a professional about the experience, he learned that the anxiety may be linked to his Parkinson’s diagnosis. Do you have panic attacks or anxiety? Have you learned how to manage them, if so? And do you know why they might occur?

Faith in the face of adversity

Jan 11, 2021 09:19 am | Ally

Replies: 26 Why do bad things happen to good people? It’s a very common question and even the title of a best selling book from the 1980s. I genuinely don’t know the answer, but I have faith that God knows what he’s doing, and even if he doesn’t create adversity for us, he works through it for good. What do you think? Has your faith in God or a higher power been challenged or grown since being diagnosed with Parkinson’s? Why do you think bad things happen to good people? * This topic was modified 1 month ago by Ally (https://parkinsonsnewstoday.com/forums/members/ally/) . * This topic was modified 1 month ago by Ally (https://parkinsonsnewstoday.com/forums/members/ally/) .

Butyric Acid and Niacin

Jan 10, 2021 10:05 am | Robert Harris

Replies: 45 I wonder if anyone has an up to date report on butyric acid fighting Parkinson’s from the intestines, and on niacin fighting inflammation in the gut caused by Parkinson’s? I’ve just recently glanced at articles from the “miracle cure” types and from respected authorities, such as NIMH.

Neuro Protective Benefits of Coffee with EHT

Jan 07, 2021 04:00 pm | Christina

Replies: 0 Does anyone please have a recommendation for the best source of Organic coffee with a high amount of EHT? EHT is the waxy coating on the bean. I am asking because I have read from a few sources that coffee is neuroprotective which lead me to a Rutger’s University study published in 2018 stating that it is important to have adequate levels of the EHT combined with the caffeine. If no one has already found a resource for this, I will research and get back with what I find but it would be nice of course to not research what someone else has already devoted time to.

My Favorite New Year’s Resolutions

Jan 07, 2021 03:07 pm | Ally

Replies: 0 Earlier this week, I posted a question asking if anyone was setting New Year’s resolutions or goals for 2021. I recently had the privilege of recording a column by Sherri Woodbridge about some of her favorite resolutions, and I think she has a lot of wisdom to share on the topic! You can listen to the flash briefing here. (https://soundcloud.com/parkisonsnewstoday/my-favorite-new-years-resolutions) In her column, Sherri talks about choosing a “word of the year” to focus on, such as calmness, gratitude or joy. My word for 2021 is patience. There are many reasons why this a good word for me in 2021 – I need to have more patience with myself and others, for one, and I also need to be patient as the world (hopefully) begins to return to some sense of pre-pandemic normalcy. Even though vaccines are rolling out, we’re not out of the woods yet. Have you chosen a word? If you have, what is it and what is its significance?
