Decades in Dewey continue!

The Little Store in Dewey Beach will reopen this spring under the management of Jeremiah’s Beach Party proprietor Jason Fruchtman, who noted both stores are celebrating their 40th anniversaries.

Before the pandemic, owners Ken and Kay Miller decided not to open The Little Store in summer 2020, but to enjoy retirement in the apartment above the ocean-block grocery and convenience store they operated seasonally for nearly four decades.

Marc Fruchtman opened the original Jeremiah’s, a record store in Wilmington, in 1980. Marc opened a couple other locations, including the one in Dewey in 1990, which outlasted them all. When his son Jason took over the store 15 years ago, the music industry was digitizing, leaving little need for physical retail space. One section at a time, Jason began replacing music CDs with beach items on store shelves until he sold the last of the CDs on two tables outside the building.

What’s cooking in the new year?

By Lisa Graff
What’s for dinner tonight? is the monotonous question these days, weeks and interminable months at home in the kitchen.

Recently, a neighbor asked me if I wanted to try three free meals from Hello Fresh. For me, the stress of cooking dinner is deciding what to make, as my spouse and I have different tastes. Why not?

Last month, a huge box landed on my doorstep. Inside were three sealed paper bags and the meats, partially frozen, at the bottom of the box. Inside each bag came all the other ingredients to make meals called Creamy Dreamy Mushroom Cavatappi, Cherry Balsamic Bavette Steak, and Pecan-Crusted Trout.

Stay warm inside a 'Dough Ball'

The Dough Bar has technically been open for a year, doing delivery and carryout, but the restaurant opened this week for indoor and outdoor seating.

While the menu of pizza and pasta is the main event, the most unique feature of the Dough Bar is the outdoor seating area. In order to maintain social distance while giving customers a unique experience, the Dough Bar has special clear tents, or “Dough Balls,” as Kristen Latham calls them.

Each tent cost about $475. The tents can seat from four to six people, and are heated for the cold winter months. Latham encouraged anyone seeking to sit in one of the outside tents to reserve one ahead of time, although reservations are not required.
