The National Health Medical and Research Council (NHMRC) is seeking community input into research priorities in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, which may form the basis of a Targeted Call for Research (TCR). CRE-STRIDE would like to take this opportunity to submit a joint submission.
We are seeking input from our team to identify areas that they believe need to address a significant research knowledge gap or unmet need in line with the objectives of STRIDE: equitable health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through quality improvement (QI) and collaborative implementation research to strengthen primary health care (PHC) systems. Specific strategies towards achieving our vision include: i) Indigenous research leadership and reciprocal mentorship and learning; ii) strengthening QI processes within PHC systems and enhancing community linkages (i.e. vertical integration); and iii) extending QI processes and collaborations across sectors to promote health and strengthen social and cultural determinants of wellbeing (i.e. horizontal integration).
There is a tight timeline as submissions need to be in by 1st February 2021.
Proposed timeline for development of STRIDE's submission:
22nd January - feedback received from team about inclusions (Please note Roxanne may ring after to talk re your idea/concept so please include your contact phone number and if you have a preferred time).
25th January 2021 - draft of concepts put in correct format for submission (which Roxanne will do) and to be sent to Veronica for feedback prior being sent out to the STRIDE team again for review.
29th January 2021 - date for final alterations, comments to be received by group.
1st February 2021 - upload to NHMRC.
NHMRC is committed to improving the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Their comprehensive 10 year strategy to improve the health of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples – Road Map 3: A strategic framework for improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health through research – highlights some key priority areas, but they are looking for input.
This is a great opportunity for STRIDE to highlight some of the upcoming research priorities that we have , that we may be looking for funding in the future and to highlight the needs we have seen in community through our work.
Please make sure all ideas/concepts/ research priorities are with me by 22nd January to give me time to put into required format, gather any additional information needed to fulfill the requirements of the submission and send back for final comments before the close date.

All the best,
Roxanne Smith
