SESSION BEGINS

On Wednesday the 13th, the first Legislative Session of the 73rd General Assembly began. Normally, opening day is a festive, exciting and extremely busy day with family members, organizations, and members of the public coming to the capitol to kick things off. This year looked much different. Entry was limited, some members participated virtually, and family members supported their newly elected loved ones from home. After three days of legislating, we passed a number of important bills (learn more here) before adjourning until February 16th as planned. Pausing formal legislative business is a necessary precaution we need to take to ensure that the business of passing laws is safe for members, staff and the public.

Even though we are not convening in the chambers every day, this isn't a vacation. We are all hard at work talking to constituents in our district, working to get bills ready to go when we return, and much more. As always, my office is open and we are ready to support you however we can.
Even though our opening day looked way different than most of us are used to, I would like to thank my colleagues for formally electing me unanimously Senate President for a second term, and for their hard work and dedication to the people of Colorado.

COVID-19 Vaccinations

After nearly a year battling this pandemic, COVID-19 vaccines are ready to go. As I write this, Pueblo County is in phase 1a and 1b, meaning that certain healthcare workers, frontline employees, and residents over the age of 70 are eligible to receive the vaccine. As a Paramedic with American Medical Response here in Pueblo, I received my first dose in late December. If you would like to learn more about how to receive the vaccine or when you are eligible, explore the links below.

Colorado is the Home of United States Space Force

During our abbreviated session, the Colorado Senate unanimously passed my memorial reaffirming Colorado as the permanent location for the United States Space Command. Republicans and Democrats agree that Colorado has the access to infrastructure, talent, and well established aerospace development that Space Command needs to succeed. President Trump's decision to thwart the wishes of top Military leaders is a mistake, and the Colorado Senate strongly urges him to reverse course.
