NEWS and EVENTS

Annual Meeting, Jan. 17

8-11 a.m. Drive-Up Voting

Now that we are online and hold no in-person services or meetings, January 17, must change in some details. Sunday’s meeting will be restricted to driving up and dropping off your ballot. We require 50 votes for a quorum. Communicants in Good Standing* are welcome to cast their ballots. You must participate in drive-up voting for your ballot to count. Absentee or proxy voting is not allowed.

You can drive up to Walton Hall from 8 to 11:00 a.m. A vestry member will hand you a ballot to fill out and will accept your votes at your car. You will also be able to pick up Communion kit, a prayer list, the 2020 Annual report, and offering envelopes. Should you plan on watching the Sunday service live online, please allow yourself time to vote at Walton Hall and to arrive home before 9 a.m.

The Annual Meeting will not be broadcast. A video message will be produced after the meeting to declare the new 2021 Vestry class and the delegates who will serve at the annual Diocesan Convention in March and the Special Convention to elect a Bishop Coadjutor in October.

*A Communicant in Good Standing is a confirmed communicant whose name is in the St. John’s Parish Register, who has been in regular attendance at St. John’s Parish Sunday worship services (unless for good cause prevented), and has been faithful in working, praying, and giving for the spread of the Kingdom of God. To vote, a Communicant in Good Standing must be 17 or older.

Altar Flowers

The altar flowers of Jan. 10 were given to the glory of God and in loving memory of James and Claudia Withington by Jay and Paulette Withington
St. John’s Altar Flower Ministry designs new flower creations each week for Sunday services. Flowers are individually selected and prepared on Friday. The cost to dedicate flowers is $70 for both vases or $40 for one. We are now taking bookings for 2021. Contact Sally Dixon (sdixon@stjohnsparish.net, 843-709-4894) or complete the dedication form inside the Church entryway.

PRAYERS

At St. John’s

Collects

Sunday, Jan. 17

Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world: Grant that your people, illumined by your Word and Sacraments, may shine with the radiance of Christ’s glory, that he may be known, worshiped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

For Persecuted Churches

We pray for persecuted churches around the world. For the month of January we pray for the nation of Somalia. Heavenly Father, Christians and Christian churches in Somalia are suffering due to violence, extreme Islamic persecution, and civil war. We lift them up in your Holy Name, asking for your mercy to surround them. We pray for the Christian churches in Somalia to persevere through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer.
