Happy New Year from High Hilton

It hasn’t been the best of starts to the New Year but we’re all hopeful for the good things to come as we go into 2021. To help keep us together and informed, we’ve started this short newsletter.

If you like the format of this newsletter, or maybe we should call it an e-letter, then please feel free to share it with others who can sign themselves up at

https://mailchi.mp/1fe3cefa4271/high-hilton-parish-church

and receive their own copy in their mailbox. If you’ve suggestions for changes and improvements please let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

Regards,
Bill

From the Minister

Dear Friends,

I am delighted that we have this email newsletter as a method of keeping in touch with members of the congregation. We are indebted to Bill Mitchell for his technical know-how that has enabled this much-needed means of communication during the current Covid-19 pandemic.

As you all probably know we have had to suspend church services until as such times as the Scottish Government lifts restrictions. However, we can keep in touch via our Facebook page, the congregation’s website, our YouTube channel and this newsletter. It would be marvellous if you could all publicise these means of keeping in touch. Please note that I am always available for a chat on the phone - 01224 493552.

The past months have been very difficult for us as individuals, as families, and as a congregation. We place our trust on Almighty God to be with us and to see us through this difficult period in our history. Our God is a personal God who is there to be called upon in our prayers where He will listen to what is in our hearts and respond by giving us his comfort and the strength we need to continue on our life’s path.

Stay safe everyone and may God bless you all.

With every blessing,
Hutton

January 2021

This is the first of this format of newsletter. We’d love to hear what you think about it, even though for this particular edition, because everything’s in lockdown, we’ve not got that much to include.

If you’ve a friend who doesn’t use online services then you can ask them to let us know they’d like to receive a printed copy. This email version saves a lot of time and effort, but we’re more than happy to send a copy by post if folk aren’t online.

Zoom

For folk that haven’t heard about Zoom, it is an app for your smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer that lets you join an online group of people and see and speak with them. You can join in by phone too. During lockdown, a good number of us meet on Zoom at 1pm on Sundays for an hour’s worth of fellowship and friendship. Have a cuppa and a fine piece handy and come and set the world to rights.

The details you need for Zoom are on the website and meeting details are posted on the Facebook page before each Sunday.

Social Media and Email

These are our social media and email services that we're using a lot during lockdown.

For folk that aren't online, the Minister is always pleased to receive phone calls at the Manse on 01224 493552.

Our Facebook® Page contains regular news and updates about what’s happening day-to-day at High Hilton Parish Church. Visit regularly.

The website contains general information about High Hilton Parish Church and the parish made up of the communities of Hilton and Middlefield.

Our general email address is ‘Info@HighHilton.Church’. Any messages sent to that address will be opened by one of the elders and then passed to the right person to deal with it.

Our YouTube® Channel contains all of the videos of our online messages and livestreamed services from High Hilton Parish Church.

Giving

The life and work of High Hilton continues through lockdown, albeit in a more restricted way than before. We’re grateful to everybody who continues to put their weekly offering in their freewill envelope or who has changed to regular giving by standing order through the bank.

If you’d like to make an online offering to High Hilton Parish Church please click the link below, choose ‘High Hilton Parish Church’ as the congregation you wish to support, and complete the form. If you’re a UK taxpayer you can apply Gift Aid to your offering, which adds 25% to its value.

A Reading

A verse for these challenging times when all the news seems to be bad news. Let’s not dwell on the negative but concentrate on the positive that’s all around us.

‘My friends, fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honourable.’

Paul's letter to the Church at Philippi, chapter 4 verse 8.

We’ll finish off this first edition with this stunning photo that the Minister captured of a dolphin playing just off the harbour mouth across from the Torry Battery. There was a whole school of them there on the day.
