As of 12 January, BEIS (Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy) have decided to move responsibility for the personal care sector, in which hairdressing, barbering, and beauty sits, into a separate BEIS sector team going forward.
This will put our sector on an equal footing to the other sectors that BEIS looks after. The safer working team has always been a temporary home, and whilst they will continue to be responsible for the safer working guidance during the pandemic, this move will ensure a more sustainable future for our industry in terms of support from government.
This can be viewed as a major step forward in our work with Government, with our industry being looked after specifically, and our needs and concerns more able to be highlighted to people in the department that have a responsibility to work and engage with our sector!
