‘Starting to speculate about a situation that is hopeful is the first step’, said Fiep van Bodegom during our last online event in 2020. A hopeful thought to bring with you in the new year! A year in which we continue to study important and beautiful subjects that affect ourselves and the arts. We will work on our projects in which we focus on climate breakdown, ownership, equality, and art education. There is still so much to learn and so much to do! Follow our programme online.
My learning is affected by the condition of my life. A critical reflection on the future of art schools
We are proud to launch ‘a symposium spread over time’ from our guest-curator Aude Christel Mgba (also curator with Sonsbeek 20-24) as part of the Future Art School project. The symposium is an attempt at an epistemic reconstruction that leads towards experimenting with various forms of learning, listening, touching, transmitting and producing knowledge. Learn more about the project in Aude’s blog.
Film interview on Hydrofeminism with Lucy Cordes Engelman
Can watery cinema and oceanic thinking act as a guide to flowing into new ways of living with ongoing, accelerating climate trauma? In this fresh new series of film interviews, as part of the LAND project, guest-curator Irene Constandse talks for us with various artists, thinkers and makers. We kick off with artist, filmmaker and writer Lucy Cordes Engelman.
Coming up: 22 January: YouTube première of the next interview with one of the new heads of ArtEZ BEAR: Edward ClydesdaleThomson.
Dossier Live and Make Land Otherwise
In September 2020 we screened the film Stones have Laws by Van Brummelen and de Haan. Then an online conversation took place with the makers and those who were involved in the making. Following the film and this conversation, we created this dossier in which we delve deeper into ideas about land, property, colonialism and climate degradation. How do we inhabit land? How do we care for it? And how do we fight for it? Find out why worldviews and practices that are based on ownership and dispossession ought to be challenged and how we can move away from them and turn towards practices through which we can Live and Make with Land Otherwise.
