GLOBAL KYTHERIAN "ZOOM" II

Dear Friends of Kythera,

Dear Kytherians and Philo-Kytherians,
Happy New Year! We hope everyone is well and enjoyed the holidays.

The Kytherian Society of California is pleased to invite you to participate in our 2nd GLOBAL ZOOM!

We are delighted to report that our first ever Global "ZOOM" Panigyri, held on Sept. 26, 2020, was an outstanding success with about 120 Kytherians and Philo-Kytherians from around the world taking part in this historic event!

If you missed it, you can watch it on YouTube: https://youtu.be/om-AaFbfzgw

While our first formal ZOOM featured a program and speakers, this ZOOM with be informal allowing for increased conversation between participants and more breakout rooms. If you are interested in speaking on a specific topic, or hearing about a particular subject, please let me know.

Because our first ZOOM took place at a time inconvenient for those in Australia, we are holding the second one at a time more appropriate for those down under.

We apologize in advance if the time is inconvenient for your location, and completely understand if you are unable to participate.

A New "Migration Museum of Kythera"

The Friends of Museums of Kythera Association has been busy. In collaboration with the Municipality of Kythera they have identified a perfect property in Agia Pelagia – the port where most Kytherians emigrated from – with a wonderful sea-view which will be transformed into a museum to document the emigration from the island. It will be an wonderful tribute to all those who left family and friends behind in search of a better life for themselves and their families. All Kytherian associations as well as the world-wide Diaspora community will be invited to submit ideas and material for the new museum.

Over the centuries, migration depleted the island of much of its youth, yet it also provided an essential financial lifeline for Kythera. Millions of dollars have been sent back to the island over the years, and generous benefactors have helped fund health-care, aged care, cultural and athletic projects. So a museum paying tribute to those who made the long journey, sometimes as young children and alone, is long overdue.

Migration to the island will also be featured in the new concept. Many "foreigners" who have settled on Kythera have played a vital part in contributing to the island's health and viability.

To make the new museum a fitting tribute, as well as a state-of-the-art educational facility capable of holding events and congresses which will in turn bring much needed income to the islanders, the new project needs your support. You can join the association and thus contribute to the preservation of Kytherian history for just €20 registration plus a yearly subscription fee of €20. You can just fill in the application form and a friendly member of the association will contact you to get your membership up and running.
The Application Form

If you would like to make a more generous donation or if you'd like more information please contact Stuart Fleming of the Friends of Museums of Kythera.

This is an important and worthwhile new project for the island which I urge you to support!
