LAUSD Small Business Boot Camp: Spring 2021
The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Small Business Boot Camp is an eight week program that provides small contractors with the tools necessary to improve their competitive capacity through a comprehensive, hands-on curriculum. At the conclusion of the eight-week program, graduating small contractors will be ready to bid on LAUSD contracts, and will be well-prepared to pursue contracts with other public agencies. The program has both short and long-term benefits for participating contractors and will serve to expand the District's pool of qualified contractors.
Contractors enrolled in the program must attend and actively participate in the eight (8) seminars in order to graduate from the Small Business Boot Camp. Each seminar is approximately three hours in the evening, one seminar per week, and will require homework. There is no enrollment cost to participate, however, there is a significant investment of time required of each contractor and contractors must possess a valid contractor's license. NorCal PTAC & Small Business Development Council (SBDC): Women Owned Small Business Certification
Learn about SBA's Women-Owned Small Business Federal Contracting program, and how to use it to leverage your business! In 2019, the federal government awarded approximately $7 Billion in contacts to certified Women-Owned Small Businesses (WOSBs). Join us to review the requirements of SBA’s Women-Owned Small Business Federal Contracting program, discuss latest changes to the WOSB certification process, and explore how to optimize and successfully complete the application at the new portal.
The SBA position all small businesses to win at least 23% of all federal contracting dollars each year by allocating set-aside contracts and subcontracting requirements. Five percent of the total set aside for small businesses is dedicated to women-owned businesses. WOSB set-asides are for industries where women have been historically underrepresented (see: eligible industries and their NAICS codes). Some contracts may be restricted further to economically disadvantaged women-owned small businesses (EDWOSB) which adds the further requirement of income verification.

AGC and Sage Release Important Report: The Pandemic’s Growing Impacts on the Construction Industry
The American Association of General Contractors (AGC) and Sage Construction and Real Estate just released a report detailing the results of a survey of 1,329 contractors from all 50 states. Some bright spots included new warehouse construction, healthcare (other than hospitals) construction, and water and sewer-related projects, and one-third of firms reported that business had returned to more normal levels and that they expect to add to their headcount. Overall, however, the survey indicated that the construction industry has been hard-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and reflected contractors' gloomy outlook across most market segments for 2021. The AGC and other contractor resources, including our Contractor Development & Bonding Programs, are committed to helping contractors weather the storm and turn challenges into opportunities.
