It all began with a conversation in my office with a Year 12 student; both of us aspiring to do more with the whole school community to help those who are less privileged. Along came ‘Adopt a School’ initiative with Dubai Cares. The deadline for the payment was nine months away. Could we at NAS Dubai be the first school to raise the full amount of 152,500 AED within nine months and get the school started?
We are NAS Dubai! We like to set ourselves apart from the rest and this was no different. As a whole school community, we baked, cycled, ran, danced, ate, performed, dressed up, face painted, watched movies, played sports all in the name of charity. We stepped into the shadow of the great leader, HH Sheikh Zayed and showed acts of kindness along our journey and encapsulated his vision of giving. We managed to raise the full amount for Adopt a School in Nepal, within a record breaking nine months. An accolade of the unique community and team spirit we have at NAS Dubai.
It is with great pleasure and honour that we present the journey our school started with fundraising, culminating in a small school being built in Guruwagaun, Bardiya region, Nepal. As a school community at NAS Dubai, we have built a school in Nepal, where students are happy, safe and enjoy attending school; most of them being the first in their family to start their journey in education.
Let us not forget those who are less privileged, may we remain steadfast in working together as a community to give children their right to an education and may we continue to champion the belief that ‘Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world’ Nelson Mandela.
