International Creativity Month

Happy New Year Friend

Here’s wishing you happiness and health. I am so happy to celebrate “International Creativity Month” with you. Studies show that creativity can increase positive emotions, lessen depressive symptoms, relieve stress, and improve immune function. I hope my newsletter will be a spark of creativity that will “Bring More Light into your world.”

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once one grows up.” I love this quote by Picasso. It brings to mind the precious first drawings my three children created during childhood. I was distraught the other day when one of these fragile keepsakes began to tear inside of a frame. It seems the backing of the frame had come apart along with the drawing.

Going Places Exhibit thru June 4

My painting “Love Me Tender” will be on exhibit at the Thrasher-Horner Center for the Arts through June 4. The exhibit open 10 am-3 pm weekdays is presented by the Art Guild of Orange Park.

Listen to Your Art

With over 6,500 languages over the world, miscommunication is bound to happen. According to the National Conference on Communication, barriers to communication prevent us from receiving and understanding information others use to convey information.

Art has an advantage over other forms of communication. Art is universal. The language of color and imagery has been used by man dating back to the cave. Saatchiart unites artists and collectors from around the world on its website. A collection of my original Lighthouse Art is on sale for the first time on Saatchiart.com.

Portland Head Lighthouse

The lighthouse art of Portland Head Lighthouse captures the essence of the most popular lighthouses. It’s red rooftop and marvelous designed keeper’s house is a stand out.

Tybee Island Lighthouse

Lighthouses are such massive structures it is sometimes challenging capturing their essence. Georgia’s tallest lighthouse and its picket fence evoked a peaceful mood. It's small scale contrasted with the towering lighthouse.

New Canal Lighthouse

The current New Canal Lighthouse is a replica that was built after severe damage from Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita in 2005. I included streaks of blue color and faded dashes of yellow in my painting to symbolize its watery misfortune and brave resurgence.

Happy New Years! Starting the year off with gratitude and happiness. So thankful for a friend purchasing a print of St. Marks Lighthouse. It was a gift for a fellow art lover. I donated 10% of the proceeds to St. Marks Wildlife Refuge and Lighthouse.

More jubilation! New collectors purchased a Gliclee print of Amelia Island Lighthouse.

Gliclee (zhee-KLAY) is a museum quality investment that uses acid free watercolor paper, and pigment based archival inks. This insures that Gliclees never fade, degrade or yellow.

Lighthouses Unite Us

I endeavor through my lighthouse art to live out the motto of my alma mater, the University of Hawaii: “Maluna a’e o na lahul a pau ke ola ke kanaka” (Above all nations is humanity.) Although there are over 18,000 lighthouses in the world. They all have one mission, saving lives.
