Apply for Jobs with the City's New Albuquerque Community Safety Department
The City is beginning to hire for its new Albuquerque Community Safety Department. The Albuquerque Community Safety Department (ACS) will dispatch first responders with backgrounds in social work, peer-to-peer support and counseling to 911 calls with and without police and fire first responders depending on the need. Mayor Tim Keller announced the creation of the Albuquerque Community Safety Department in June 2020 as an alternative to police and fire response when appropriate.
“Creating the ACS is a bold step to help Albuquerque elevate a public health approach in emergency response,” said Mayor Keller.
When ACS begins operation, 9-1-1 dispatchers will have another tool in their toolbox to send trained professionals to respond to calls for assistance with people who are unsheltered, dealing with addiction or mental health challenges, or have other issues that do not present an immediate threat to public safety.
