Downtowner Online: Jan 6 - 12
Dear Downtown San Jose Supporters,

We hope you all had a wonderful and safe New Year! We're excited to kick off 2021 with new Downtown Doors artwork, colorful lights and positive vibes. Here's to another year of community love, support and growth. Thank you for sticking with us.

In this newsletter, you'll find:
We're all in this together.
#DTSJ Restaurants - Chef's Market
Looking for new ways to support local restaurants while staying safe? Check out Chef's Market brought to you by Chef Rodney Baca that's bringing together local restaurants to one location at 300 S. First Street in downtown San Jose.

Let's come together as a community to help save small businesses and feed those in need. For every meal you order for yourself, a meal is donated to San Jose Ship Kits/Hunger at Home.
You can order from any (or all) of the restaurants listed and pick up with touchless delivery at the drive thru. Runs daily from 11 am - 6 pm until Jan. 12. Order now.
Arts - New Year, New Downtown Doors
Each year, the Downtown Doors program gives high school students an opportunity to share their artwork and have it beautify downtown doors, utility boxes and the overall look of downtown's street landscape. San Jose Downtown Foundation introduced 10 doors and winners back in Spring of 2020 and we're happy to announce 10 new doors and winners from our Fall 2020 program!

It's easy to spot a downtown door when you're strolling around downtown. These student art pieces make our streets vibrant, colorful and unique, all the while providing our youth with a public forum to express themselves and their view of the world.  Did you know that SJDF's Downtown Doors program -- now in its 17th year -- has received worldwide attention through the International Downtown Association and nationally through the National Endowment for the Arts?  Use this map to check out the 10 new doors when you're walking around downtown. Don't forget to grab some takeout from a local restaurant before you head home!
Outdoor Activities - Downtown Lights & Illuminations
To keep the holiday spirit going a little longer in downtown, building illuminations along First Street from the SoFA District to the Historic District will be up until Jan. 17. Take an evening walk or short drive throughout downtown to see video projections dress up downtown buildings in a new light.

We will continue to have weekly updates and additions, so make sure to come downtown when you can. The projections run nightly from 6 - 9:30 pm on weekdays and until 10 pm on the weekends.
Some buildings to look out for:
  • 300 S. First Street - First and San Carlos
  • The Fairmont Hotel Annex along First Street
  • The Pavilion - 150 S. First Street
  • Security and Leticia Buildings at 70 S. First Street
  • Bamboo Panda Mural - First and San Fernando
  • City Hall Rotunda
  • Tower at 200 E. Santa Clara Street

San Jose Love Stories - Thank You, Downtown San Jose
San Jose Love Stories highlight acts of kindness by our community for our community. This week, we want to thank you, our downtown community.

2020 was a long and hard year and many of our downtown businesses would not have made it to 2021 if it weren't for you. Thanks for your continuous support by dining local and choosing to shop small, making sure your dollars stay within our community. We've made it this far and we still have an indefinite amount of time yet to go.

Our collective small actions here and there will continue to have large impacts on our community. Include food takeout or delivery from a downtown restaurant as part of your routine. In need of retail therapy? Shop local at downtown's retail shops.

Our collective efforts will keep struggling restaurants and businesses alive. Here's to a better 2021!
