It's a Survey & Statistic Social!
Tuesday, January 19th 6:30pm on Zoom
What are the 'odds' that the Windems would have a statistician and survey expert in their midst? Set yourself up with whatever makes you feel social and jump on Zoom as Tony tackles the question of, "What's going on with surveys these days?".
Tony is a mathematical statistician who worked for the Census Bureau in D.C. for eight years and since 1985 has worked for the UMass/Boston Center for Survey Research. Bring your questions, for example, which survey results confounded you the most this past election cycle?
Register for the event . You can also find the event at the Windems FB page.

Four years ago, on the eve of the presidential inauguration, the Windems hosted a candlelight vigil as a showing of solidarity in the community after a very divisive campaign season. The invitation was to the entire community. Over thirty people gathered for the short ceremony of word, song and light. United by a desire for cohesion surrounding the ideals that make Windham, and America, such a great place to live, participants indicated their willingness to Stand Together against division. During the call and response, people heard several shared concerns of division over issues such as gender, race, income, health, sexual orientation and age. Following the call of each issue was the response to 'Stand Together'.
Four years later, recognizing the opportunity of a new inauguration, the Windems will be hosting another Standing Together event for the community. This year's event will be a bit different with the pandemic precautions in place. It will be a drive-in event with participants able to tune in on their radio. Final preparations are being made, so watch for an email, social media and the local paper for all of the details. We hope you will join us!

The Coalition was started almost two years ago to draw Presidential candidates to the towns of Windham, Salem, Pelham, Atkinson, Plaistow and Hampstead. Together we brought every candidate, except for Senator Harris, to at least one of our six towns. Many candidates made multiple visits. In November of 2019 we held a sold out gala with Senator Amy Klobuchar as the guest speaker. We opened an office in a very visible location on the north end of Rt. 28 in Salem, excited for the candidates and events we could host. Then, Covid-19 hit.
The office served as a staging location for sign distribution and for contact-less literature drops when that was permitted. A table with candidate literature was staffed by socially-distanced volunteers during the Salem Farmers Market. The final event was a Coalition-wide collection of unwanted campaign signs that were delivered to the University of NH for repurposing into adaptive equipment by Occupational Therapy students. With that complete, the office was cleaned and closed.
The Coalition remains united. Plans are in the works for special speaker programs on Zoom. With more than 10,000 Democratic voters in our six towns, together we can make the ask to bigger speakers and candidates than we could draw individually, and draw bigger audiences.
The Coalition would like to thank all of you who attended the candidate events and the fundraising gala and volunteered in the office or for the literature drops. We look forward to the day when we can do all of these things together in person again!

The Meetinghouse of NH Democrats
This beautiful house in Londonderry, on the corner of Pillsbury and Mammoth Roads, is now officially the home of The Meetinghouse of NH Democrats. It will be supported by donations and fundraising to provide a welcoming place for Democratic candidates, speakers and events. Other groups that may have a difficult time finding places to meet are welcome as well - area LGBTQ qroups have already expressed interest. The lot is large and flat with a generous parking lot for outdoor socially distanced events and picnics.
If you would like to donate, one-time or monthly, visit https://secure.actblue.com/donate/meetinghouse. To learn more or to show your support, visit and 'like' the Facebook page.

Help keep NH from being further Gerrymandered by getting a resolution passed in our town! Would you like to help collect signatures? 25 signatures are needed to get on the ballot. The goal is 50 so there are plenty of backups in case some are rejected. Email Kristi@windems.org if you want to help. You can learn more about the effort and gerrymandering here.

The members of the Board of Selectmen, Planning Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment and School Board are elected (1-2 seats on each Board), as well as the Town Moderator, and other Town roles (such as Cemetary Trustee, Trustee of the Trustfunds, etc). We have members and former members of most of the Boards and positions within the Windems. Reach out to Kristi@windems.org if you would like to get connected. Also, the NHDP is hosting trainings for candidates for municipal offices. Donnie Spencer is the Grassroots Coordinator. Emmett Soldati has decided to run for NH Democratic Party State Chair. He was the speaker for our December meeting, sharing his local-first vision to build up from the grassroots. You can read more about him and his bid for Chair at his website, www.emmetsoldati.com. He actively shares his email address, asking people to reach out with questions, comments and suggestions: emmettsoldati@gmail.com. Only members of the state committee can vote in the March State caucus, and therefore vote for the State Chair. The state committee is comprised of Democrats in elected office, former party officials and county democratic committee executive boards. However, Emmett is looking for help growing and bringing attention to his grassroots campaign.

Change is coming to the Windems
The Windems caucus is coming soon. It will be the 16th of either February or March.
We caucus as a committee every two years to elect officers (Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer). This year I will be stepping down as Chair after eleven years. It has not been easy, but then nothing worth doing is ever easy. It has been challenging and rewarding, with one big reward being the many Windems I have have met, worked with and learned from. I look forward to this transition both for myself and for the committee as we each continue to serve and grow.
To run for one of the seats on the Board you can declare ahead of time (the Windems Facebook page would be a good place reach fellow Windems to build dialogue and support) or be nominated from the floor at the Caucus. Whichever way you decide to go, I would be happy to answer any questions you have. Kristi@windems.org. You can also reach out to the other officers, Val Roman is Vice Chair, Ellen McCahon is Secretary and Karen Clark is treasurer.
