REC Names New Western Region Manager

Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) has promoted Shawn McDonough to serve as REC’s Western Region Manager. REC’s western region includes portions of the counties of Albemarle, Clarke, Culpeper, Fauquier, Frederick, Greene, Madison, Orange, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, Stafford and Warren.

McDonough has over 31 years of experience in utility operations, including project management, engineering and leadership.

“Mr. McDonough is an accomplished project management professional and utility leader,” said John Arp, vice president of engineering, operation and power supply. “Since joining REC in 2010, he has been an integral part of the project management team and a key contributor on several large-scale projects.”

McDonough holds a Bachelor of Science in Electric Engineering from Youngstown State University and a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Hood College. He received his Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) in 2014. McDonough started at REC as a planning engineer, and became Director of Project Management in 2019. McDonough began his new role Dec. 20.

GCOC Radio Promotion

The definition of “business as usual” is changing on a daily basis.  As another avenue for promotion to the entire Charlottesville area, we wanted to remind everyone that The Greene County Chamber of Commerce (“Chamber”)  with generous support from the Greene Economic Development Authority (EDA) is continuing the cooperative radio marketing program is being continued for all businesses in Greene County.  This program will run through June 2021.  The Chamber Board’s goal for this program is to increase the awareness in Central Virginia of the wonderful goods and services available in Greene County.

The spots are managed by Susan Terwilleger at the Charlottesville Radio Group.   More than 140 ads will run each month, including primes and bonus times on 6 local radio stations to include Cville Country 92.7, The Corner 106.1, ESPN 102.9, Z 95.1, Iconic Rock 97.5 and News Radio 98.9.  4 businesses per month will be highlighted with their 37-40 word ad with one other business that will feature an opening and closing highlighting Greene County and  various business segments in Greene.

Because of the generous support of the EDA, any business that is NOT a Chamber member can participate in the program for a discounted rate. However, if a business is a Chamber member at the time they sign up for the Program, the Chamber will subsidize an additional amount to the already offered discount for Greene County Chamber full members in good standing. Please note, this opportunity is limited only to businesses who are located in Greene County or are full members in good standing of the Greene Chamber of Commerce.

Based on previous experience with this program and the current situation, we know there will be a high demand for the ad.  Businesses will be limited to no more than 2 months at a time and if there are multiple requests for certain months, preference will be given to businesses who have not already participated in the last year.

If you and your business are interested in participating any time between now and June 30, 2021, please contact Susan Terwilleger directly at sterwilleger@charlottesvilleradiogroup.com434-220-2322.  She will manage the ads with all payments coming to the Chamber.
