2020 started for many with a lot of optimism. At The PEAK Fleet, we had momentum going into 2020 and were excited to continue and even grow in delivering our mission to help individuals abound with purpose and thrive together in teams.
For all of us, life changed drastically in March. COVID-19 completely changed our work (as well as the rest of our lives of course) overnight. Budgets shifted, plans went on hold. No in-person workshops allowed. The risk of moving from abundance to scarcity smacked us all in the face.
Then in late May, racial justice became a central focus again with the murder of George Floyd.
These situations have been circumstances we must address. In our view, they have presented an opportunity to stay strong and to focus on the fundamental things that matter most. As “necessity is the mother of invention”, 2020 has presented us with the need to tap our creativity and innovative capabilities to pivot our business in order to survive, and hopefully flourish down the road.
What 2020 brought for me, true to the number, was 20/20 clarity. Clarity about my values and how that translates into my behavior. Clarity of purpose and my “why”. Clarity about the importance of connection and how to rewire our thinking on creating that connection. Clarity about the need to set clear boundaries to support my long-term needs AND at the same time build bridges together with others.
Overall, 2020 has been as we say, “a dumpster fire”. But we also say that the phoenix can rise from the ashes. While 2021 will not flip the switch on the pandemic, and we have so much work to do for social justice, the new year marks a time we can clarify the direction of our ship and set sail for new horizons. I hope you’ll join us in setting sail for 2021 with Persistence, Empathy, Authenticity, and Kindness.
