Dear Campus Community,

We continue to provide transparent and timely information to students, faculty, and staff regarding numbers of COVID-19 cases and exposure throughout this uncertain time.

A staff member who was working in El Pomar Sports Center and a student living in Western Ridge Apartments received positive COVID-19 test results and are now in isolation. We have conducted contact tracing, which is essential to preventing spread of the virus. Anyone who had contact with these individuals has been asked to quarantine.

A reminder: Avoid crowds and gatherings. Limit personal gatherings to no more than 10 people from no more than two separate households. Small gatherings reduce your risk, reduce the risk of spreading the virus to many people,  and reduce the likelihood of large quarantines.

Students returning after Winter Break must follow the college’s testing and enhanced social distancing protocols until receiving their second negative test result.

A much more contagious COVID-19 variant, called B.1.1.7, is now in Colorado. While the new variant’s symptoms are no more severe than previous strains, it is much more easily spread. This means it is even more important to follow safety protocols including wearing a mask, social distancing, and washing hands frequently, to mitigate risk for yourself and others.

Thanks to all campus community members for participating in the important contact tracing process. Students, remember that the contact tracing process is confidential and is in no way connected to the student disciplinary process.

We send a notification when an individual who received a positive COVID-19 test result has been on campus within the time range of contagion and may have been in contact with others on campus. The CC COVID-19 dashboard shows all known CC community cases, including our local off-campus students and employees. It provides quick access to COVID-19 metrics on campus and in the El Paso County community including COVID-19 exposure, testing, and positive test results.

Students are tested upon arrival to campus, and we conduct random testing each week of students, as well as of employees who work on campus. This allows us to quickly identify and respond to cases in order to reduce the risk of spreading the virus. Rigorous testing allows us to have students on and near campus.

Members of the CC community — including off-campus students — have access to symptomatic COVID testing using a CC-specific UCH Nurse Triage Line:
833-494-0560 Pin#: 0801. If you experience any symptoms that are associated with COVID-19, you should contact a medical provider through the process listed here to determine whether COVID-19 testing is needed. Note: If a COVID-19 test is determined to be medically appropriate, the CC contact tracing team will be notified, contact tracing will begin, and isolation and quarantine protocols will begin. Faculty and staff who receive test results through another provider should report symptoms and positive test results to msantos@coloradocollege.edu.

If you have questions, email covid19@coloradocollege.edu.

Sincerely,

Maggie Santos
