Al-Quds Bard College for Arts and Sciences (AQB) has the honor to announce the launch of the Al-Quds Bard Academy (AQBA), an intensive one-year college preparatory program. The AQBA has been made possible by a new strategic academic partnership withthe Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, based in Kuwait. It will launch in a pilot version in spring 2021, with a full program slated for 2021-22 and beyond.
The AQBA serves talented Palestinian high school graduates for whom limited English skills and limited financial means are barriers to matriculation at AQB. Scholarship support provides access to make the program – and potential enrollment at Al-Quds Bard College after completion of the program – affordable for students from backgrounds of modest means. Many of AQB’s potential undergraduate students come from rural areas and refugee camps where access to quality education is severely limited.
The AQBA academic program will consist principally of English language immersion, using a variety of teaching methods to provide rigor, excitement, and engagement in ideas and activities that stimulate students’ imaginations and prepare them to succeed as undergraduates. This curriculum offers a new education model incorporating innovative teaching methods designed to move students toward a path of success in college. It includes innovative ways to support and address basic grammar and speaking skills, as well as content-driven classes that will emphasize critical thinking, writing, and analytical skills. AQBA also offers extra-curricular activities designed to promote civic engagement and leadership skills.
