FIRST PUBLICATION OF 2021

Back in the fall, I shared with you that my short story "Pyrocene" had been selected by Creative Colloquy for inclusion in their seventh print anthology. CC Volume 7 will be available to purchase starting this weekend! If you're in Tacoma, please support our local indie bookstore and pick up a copy from Kings Books. You can also grab a copy on Amazon.

In addition to having a story published, this month I also started a new job as the University of Puget Sound's new copywriter. I'm loving new job and grateful to once again be employed, but I'm also feeling stretched a bit thin.

I haven't quite wrapped up all of my freelance projects. Add in the time I spend recording an editing videos for my church each week and now most evenings and weekends have been swallowed up. It doesn't leave any room for more creative pursuits like blogging, starting a podcast, or writing my novel.

Hopefully, things will start to balance out in February. Keep your fingers crossed!

FROM THE BLOG: HINDSIGHT IS 2020 AND NEW BIRTHDAY RESOLUTIONS
The start of a new year is always a busy time on the blog. If you have a few minutes, I encourage you to read my year-end wrap-up about the wildly unpredictable ride that was 2020 (written before the madness of January 2021) and check out my birthday resolutions, a yearly tradition where I look ahead at what I want to accomplish in the coming 12 months.

WHAT I'M READING AND LISTENING TO
It's been a busy few weeks, but I've managed to dive into a few amazing podcasts, immerse myself in some excellent books, and find some worthwhile reads on the Interwebs. Here's what I've been enjoying this month:
BOOKS: PODCASTS: FROM AROUND THE INTERNET:
THE LAST WORD
There is something comforting about the practice of baking bread. Since getting a new book about at-home artisan bread baking for Christmas (see above), I've already churned out three loaves that are by far the best I've ever made. It's easy to tune out the world when tweaking the ratio of the ingredients, adjusting the rise time, perfecting the proofing environment and fiddling with the temperature of the oven. These are problems within my control, and that feels good. Here's to more crusty loaves!
