Online Mandala workshop

Monday 11 and Tuesday 26 Jan
10am-12pm
Max 20 per workshop

Keep well and join artist Patricia Fitzgerald on the journey into the world of Mandala creation.

Mandalas can be found from ancient to present times and can be profoundly soothing and healing. As you work with a Mandala, you begin to balance your brain in a creative meditation, letting your thoughts become clearer.

Patricia will give a presentation on the history of Mandala and how you can use them for calmness and healing. She will show you how to create a simple freehand mandala and show you how you can continue to create more complex designs.

This art form truly is a balm for the soul, reconnecting you to your inner self and to the world of nature of which you are a part. You can find out more about Patricia's work here.

Several of the chosen titles include links to the online version of the book, perfect for home reading!

askabout…dlr gives a handy overview of material relating to this area on the AskAboutIreland website, aimed at both primary students and the general interest historian. Subjects are wide-ranging - from Baths and Bathing, Martello Towers, the Big Houses of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and Wild Flowers of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. Direct links are provided for all of the topics. These leaflets will be available in all dlr branch libraries when we re open and also online at the link below.

Storytelling online with Candlelit Tales

Candlelit Tales
Mac Datho's Pig by Candlelit Tales - recorded live in dlr LexIcon, kindly supported by the Creative Ireland Programme.

Enjoy this festive online storytelling presented by Candlelit Tales, filmed in dlr LexIcon. Ancient Irish tales, stories, music, delivered in a most modern way by the talented crew at Candlelit Tales.

"Christmas is the time of year, in the darkest hours, when we light fires and have feasts, and drinks, and... fights, and arguments, and head bashings, and nose breaking, and head-choppings, and wall breaking... Well it is in this story anyway!"

Parental advisory: suitable for older children and adults.

Design a Postcard Competition

We are delighted to announce our Design a Postcard competition! It’s all part of the What’s in a Name? series of events celebrating the centenary of the name change in 1920 from Kingstown to Dún Laoghaire. This competition is open to all age groups and we have excellent prizes.

We want you to showcase your favourite spot in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown with a colourful design that would entice people to visit. dlr Libraries have acquired nearly 700 postcards of this area for our Local Studies Collection and we’ve created a book and exhibition to share with you. Now it’s YOUR turn to share your favourite parts of the County with us!
Closing date for competition is Friday 15 January 2021 and we plan on printing a limited number of the winning entries.
