Online: MV Poetry Reading Group

The Martha's Vineyard Poetry Reading Group is now meeting via Zoom! This is an interactive group, where the meeting's leader selects a poem(s), from the earliest Greeks to contemporary. The poetry is read and discussed as a community, which always adds new dimensions to understanding. The MV Poetry Reading Group has been meeting for over 10 years and wants to stress how much more we get out of the poems when shared and discussed. No qualifications, except a love of poetry.
Note: January Meeting has been rescheduled to Monday January 11th at 10 am, but subsequent meetings will be on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:30 AM.

9 am Tuesday January 12th
Online: Conversation en Francais

Join our weekly French conversation group. All levels are welcome. For more language learning support try Mango Languages, an online language-learning system available to library cardholders.

6 pm Tuesday January 12th
Online: David Duarte, author of Martha's Vineyard Burning
Island son Dave Duarte and Ginger Martin-Duarte present their collaboration 'Martha's Vineyard Burning: A Tragicomedy Memoir of Drugs, Sex & Arson.' David Duarte, a second-generation son of Martha's Vineyard who also descends from Portuguese whalers first arriving in the area in the 1800s, chronicles the pitfalls and obstacles he overcame. Martha's Vineyard Burning reminds readers that we're never alone, no matter how much we may feel we are, in times of deep pain. Eventually, it will all turn out for the best, a lesson Duarte can see clearly now, after seventy-nine years on one of the most unique islands in the world.

This session will host a presentation by Leigh Ann Parente of Firebird Yarns in San Francisco. Leigh Ann, yarn expert and Island daughter, will talk about how indie yarn travels from sheep to your needles, how it is processed, spun, sourced and dyed. We'd love to have you join in!

1:30 pm Thursday January 21st
Online: Library Book Group

Come enjoy a lively discussion online! Monthly book selections are available as Overdrive eBooks as well as in print format via request. Everyone is invited to join us. January selection:  'Hillbilly Elegy' by J D Vance.
