The Suckling 90 Point, $40 RRP Bordeaux -
for $16.99!
If
Maison De Grand Esprit sounds familiar to this audience, it should be as
it is the French Import brand of Australia's biggest wine company,
Treasury Wines (Penfolds, Wynns, Seppelt etc). The familiarity would
stem from the Grand Cru Burgundies and Single Vineyard Rhones we offered
from this marque a few years ago that were slashed from many (many)
hundreds of dollars to 75% or more off at the end of their run. Now
we're doing it again with a further allocation of their Bordeaux.
Apart from obviously spruiking the wine, the aforementioned information
goes to the reputable source of this wine. Not a lot of expense has been
spared, right down to the super premium packaging. The L'Etre Magique
2015 is a blend of predominantly Merlot and Cab Sav. The result is a
medium to full bodied wine which shows varietal plum and cherry and
reflects its Bordeaux roots with a dry, savoury finish which balances it
perfectly. It's attractively old school for mine. James Suckling is a
fan noting his score in context of all Bordeaux sampled and rated:
This has a nice linear line running through it with medium body, light
and fine tannins. Currant and blackberry character. Hints of sweet
tobacco. Bright and clean. Real Bordeaux style. Mostly merlot with some
cabernet sauvignon and franc. Dash of carmenere in the blend. Drink now.
Alcohol: 13.5%;
Rating: 90 Points; James Suckling
While it will hold in the short to
medium term, it's ready to roll now and unlike many Australian Cabernets
at this price, an excellent food wine. Then of course the price. Not
$40.00 retail but just $16.99. No brainer. This is our second and final
allocation. Stocks of this are limited.
