News by and for the Rocky Mountain Conference,
United Church of Christ

The purpose of the Rocky Mountain Conference is to inspire, challenge, and empower generous faith and justice communities across the West. One way we do this is by supporting people – both ministers and laypersons – who are called to work on behalf of the ministry of Christ in the greater Rocky Mountain area. The Tributary Fund is our newest tool to accomplish this goal.

When a person is called to ordained ministry, she or he becomes a “Member in Discernment” and enters a relational process with a team that helps to affirm, shape, and cultivate the sense of call. The Tributary Fund uses a similar process. Those who see themselves as Call-Bearers for new ministry, new churches, or ministry revitalizations enter a discernment process to affirm and shape the call and help to bring the ministry to fruition.

Healthy Congregations: Equipping Leaders with Tools for Vitality
February 6, 8:30-4:30 MT
In this time of increased anxiety, complexity, and division, we don’t just need leadership, we need wise leadership. We need leaders who can calmly articulate what they think and value and to act on that basis, while staying in an active relationship with those who disagree.

Healthy Congregations uses the insights of family systems theory to help church leaders become more effective stewards of their congregation’s health. This workshop helps both clergy and lay leaders expand their insight into how churches function as emotional systems as well as gain practical skills that empower healthy communication among the congregation. Health and Human Service Sunday
January 31, 2021
The Health and Human Service Sunday webpage has been updated with a PDF of worship suggestions for this year, including a Litany of Gratitude for Essential Workers and a Prayer of Remembrance for those lost in the coronavirus pandemic. Special thanks to the Rev. Dr. Elyse Berry, my colleague on the CHHSM staff, for writing the very moving elements of this service, designed to speak to our experiences with Covid-19 this year.
