On MONDAY, JANUARY 11, we will commence a new series of Virtual Meditation on the Lawn with facilitator Anthony DeMauro. These meditations are led by inspiring members of the UVA community and special guests. Check out our list of past facilitators and access recordings of all previous sessions here.

*You must register for this new series of Meditation on the Lawn even if you previously registered for the Fall 2020 series. REGISTER HERE.

**There will be no session on Monday, January 18, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2021, and no session on Monday, March 29, due to UVA's Spring Break holiday.

community event: Contemplative Reading for Wisdom

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 20
11:00am - 12:00pm (ET)
Online
Free and open to the public. Registration required.

While people read for all kinds of reasons—for pleasure, to get information, to pass the time—in this session participants will explore what it means to read contemplatively. The workshop will provide an introduction to using contemplative reading as a powerful counter-practice to high-quantity and speed-based information consumption.

Participants will share their own experiences with contemplative reading and learn how contemplative reading can enhance a sense of creative agency and encourage new ways of seeing, thinking about, and compassionately engaging with the wider world.

CSC's Karolyn Kinane will facilitate this virtual discussion in partnership with the Jefferson Madison Regional Library (JMRL). You may access the event online through Zoom or via a toll-free phone number. Register to receive details.
