MAKING HISTORY

It is mind boggling to reflect on the fact that on this day one year ago, very few, if any, owners were even aware of the highly transmissible severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that emerged in late 2019, and caused the COVID-19 pandemic which continues to inflict misery all over the world. Most owners never imagined needing to provide DSD services to countless retail accounts ravaged first by consumers panicking over the pandemic, and then by looters engaged in widespread civil disorder in nearly every major metropolitan market. Indeed, there are now promising treatments and vaccines to end the worldwide lockdowns - and the good news is the 20th year of the 3rd millennium is now history. The bad news is that the physical, emotional and economic toll of 2020 is yet to be paid in full, and much work must still be done as we all continue to play a part in making history.

Last week, POAA President Tony Sherman raised several serious issues that threaten to erode equity for every DSD owner in 2021, so TeamPOAA will begin to examine an especially troubling issue - the Campbell Snacks Mobile Transformation Initiative (MTI).

By now, PF managers verbally advised every owner of a new corporate mandate that 1) owners must procure readily-available iPads and/or Samsung tablets only from CPB’s designated sole source, and 2) PF will automatically deduct new weekly technology fees from consignment commissions earned. Significantly, PF managers were not permitted to provide owners with copies of their MTI slide presentations, and PF executives have not published any meaningful details about the new MTI mandate, which begs the question: Why is the MTI corporate mandate still such a mystery?

TeamPOAA will offer some answers in next week’s newsletter, but we want to hear from you in the meantime.
