COVID-19 Vaccine

I am excited to announce the formation of an Issaquah Vaccine Community Partnership that will focus on COVID-19 vaccine distribution in our City.

The vaccine is currently offered to specific groups at highest risk, such as workers in healthcare and people in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. See the phases online.

Meanwhile, when vaccine is more widely available, healthcare clinics, pharmacies, and drive-through and walk-through clinics will likely provide vaccinations.

This new Issaquah Vaccine Community Partnership will ensure:
  • Close coordination with Public Health – Seattle and King County on vaccine distribution.
  • Clear, concise communication with our community.
  • Situational awareness with community partners, including first responders, pharmacies, health care providers, senior care facilities and more on availability and demand.

I have started recruiting members for this advisory team, and several are expected to join the Issaquah Recovery Task Force during its next virtual meeting at 4 p.m. Jan. 14.

This is an exciting moment, as we’ve all waiting a very long time for a COVID-19 vaccine. With the advice and leadership of this partnership, I look forward to safe, equitable and timely vaccinations in Issaquah.

Governor's Plan: Healthy Washington

Governor Jay Inslee recently announced a new plan for reopening the state, as the current restrictions expire on Jan. 11.

According to the “Healthy Washington – Roadmap to Recovery” plan, the Puget Sound region will enter Phase 1 on Jan. 11. This means keeping the current, temporary restrictions – but allowing some additional fitness, entertainment and sports activities at a limited capacity.

To move to Phase 2 – and reopen more businesses and activities – our region must meet four metrics related to regional hospital capacity and admissions, case rates and test positivity. Learn more online.

I’m hopeful this plan continues to save lives, while enabling the reopening of our economy. I recently checked in with Chris Beaudoin, the Chief Operating Officer at Swedish Issaquah, and asked how we could help.

His message was clear: Wear a mask, physically distance, and stay in your bubble to reduce the number of people that need to come to the hospital.

Buy a Mask, Help Others

Thanks to the creativity of the Issaquah Recovery Task Force, we are now selling face masks adorned with local art. All proceeds from the sales will be donate to the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank.

We made a call for local artists earlier this year, and several community members submitted beautiful options. The final design was selected by our Arts Commission and Recovery Task Force.

Congratulations to winning artist Annie Keller, an eighth-grade student and Issaquah resident!

Please join me in purchasing a mask, supporting a good cause and showing your #IssaquahLoyal pride.
