Covid-19 National lockdown 3.0 now in place

Torbay residents must now stay at home as the Government introduces new national lockdown.

The measures announced on Monday evening mean that from now everyone should stay at home, with the exception of specific reasons, such as essential shopping, to work if you cannot work from home, to exercise and to seek medical help.

Torbay Council have responded with offers of support. You can find out what is available as the time of issuing this bulletin here.

A difficult year – with hope for the future

2020 was certainly a year like no other.

Steve Brown, director of public health Devon County Council and Dr Rob Dyer, NHS medical director for Devon have published a joint New Year message.

'It is customary at this time of year to reflect, to look at the last 12-months'

'The usual trials and tribulations of normal times were suddenly and significantly turned on their head'

Your shielding experiences in lockdown 1.0

Last year, we sent out a questionnaire to local people about their experiences of shielding in the UK’s first lockdown.

Responses about medication delivery and collection were nearly all positive.

We want to hear about your experiences of using health and social care services in this challenging time. If you are shielding, or know someone who is, and have any comments about subjects in this report now that we are in lockdown again, please get in touch with our team:

Frontline staff to receive COVID-19 vaccine at Torbay Hospital

Torbay Hospital is one of the latest hospital hubs to offer the vaccine, from 4 January, having received its first batch of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. Trained vaccinators are offering the vaccine to frontline staff and healthcare workers who are at highest risk of serious illness from COVID-19, in line with priorities set by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation. The vaccine will then be rolled out to all health and care staff.

Over the next week, the Devon Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) aims to have clear information and guidance on how health and care staff will be vaccinated and will share this as soon as they can. Until then, the CCG is asking staff not to contact their local GP, hospital, or services like NHS 111 to seek a vaccine.

16 vaccination centres, serving patients from over 100 GP practices, are also up and running across Devon – including at Dawlish Community Hospital and the Riviera Centre in Torquay. Local people are asked not to contact their practice or hospital to ask about an appointment – the NHS will contact you when it’s your turn.

Waymarker stone sculpture project at Torbay Hospital unveiled

A new waymarker sculpture trail has been unveiled on the Torbay Hospital site as part of a celebration of green spaces and in recognition of their benefits for wellbeing.

Devon-based sculptor Zoe Singleton collaborated with the Trust’s HeArTs team (Health and the Arts in Torbay and South Devon) to develop the Waymarker Project. The five sculptures form a trail connecting spaces along a route for people to pause, think and reflect as they walk or rest amidst the grass and trees.

Last chance to give your feedback

Do you care for a family member or friend with a disability, health condition, drug / alcohol or mental health issue, or who is older and frail? If you care unpaid (apart from benefits), then you are probably an unpaid Carer, and we’d like to hear from you – we really do listen!

Healthwatch, your local independent consumer champion, is carrying out this independent survey into Carer Support and how services could do things differently. Your views will help shape services over the next three years.
