Dear <<First Name>>,

I was in the middle of preparing the Domain William Fèvre Burgundy 2019 EP offer, when this Italian parcel dropped and I could not resist!

Italian wine is in ascendancy (full stop).

Top quality vintages just keep coming, some are
'Rockstar Vintages' (James Suckling) and there has hardly been a bad vintage since 2004. It seems the quality envelope is being pushed further and further each year.

2013 has been and gone with great acclaim, along with the spectacular 2015 vintage. We now have the latest releases from 2016 and once again the critics are pouring praise on the excellent wines being produced.

Antonio Galloni (www.vinous.com)

"If I had to think of one way to universally describe the majority of wines from the 2016 vintage, I would offer that they are like a well-muscled black stallion in its prime. They are dark yet radiant, expressive, nearly explosive at times, yet pure, poised and structured. These are wines that capture your imagination; and no matter how youthfully tense they are today, you simply can’t help but revisit a glass over and over again; because in many cases, the aromatics alone are intoxicating. I frankly cannot remember the last time I tasted young wines from Montalcino that possessed such symmetry from start to finish."

The joy of a great vintage is you should not have to look too far and spend too much money, to drink top quality wine.
Fattoria dei Barbi is another one those producers and their 'regular' Brunello di Montalcino, has just been awarded 94+ pts from
Monica Larner at Wine Advocate and proclaiming ".. this is a solid go-to Brunello, especially if you are looking for a bottle with a relatively accessible drinking window"

This is re-enforced by
Eric Guido at Vinous.com with 94 pts and declares "This is full of character, yet youthfully poised and tense, Fattoria dei Barbi really over-delivers in 2016"

Monica Larner (Wine Advocate)

" .. the self-propagated hype and hyperbole surrounding these wines is growing with the unique, almost obsessive intensity that only Montalcino can muster. Brunello from 2016 and Brunello Riserva from 2015 are poised for long-term success, they will undoubtedly be remembered as important highlights on a long timeline of vintages.
These are career-defining wines for many estates and for the appellation as a whole."

With the Barbi 2015 BDM Vigna del Fiore (95 pts - WA) demanding £60+ per bottle and the Barbi 2015 BDM Riserva also requiring c.£50+ per bottle, this is a great opportunity to grab a case of excellent wine at a great price that will last for 10 yrs. Not currently listed on WS UK.

Monica Larner
(Wine Advocate) - 94+ pts

"The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is a delicate and graceful wine. It shows the precision, linearity and power of the vintage for sure, but it also delivers floral tones, bright raspberry, toasted almond and a playful touch of medicinal herb that shape a careful and contemplative bouquet. Those bright aromatic nuances are followed by silky tannins and softly finessed fruit flavors. With some 160,000 bottles made, this is a solid go-to Brunello, especially if you are looking for a bottle with a relatively accessible drinking window."

Eric Guido
(Vinous.com) - 94 pts

"Dark and minerally intense from start to finish, the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino displays crushed stone and ashen earth tones before blossoming further with notes of black cherry, cedar box and sage. The textures are creamy, with cooling acids that lift the expression while also maintaining an energetic feel, as tart wild berries and spices give way to a coating of fine tannins. This is full of character, yet youthfully poised and tense, but it’s like a bomb waiting to explode. Fattoria dei Barbi really over-delivers in 2016"

"There is a little something special that pulls at my heartstrings each year when I taste the wines of Fattoria dei Barbi. It's connected to the realization that I am tasting a creation made by one of the region's oldest estates and the respect I feel for the family that has carried forth this proud agricultural tradition with such care"

Fattoria dei Barbi

The Cantina dei Barbi, with its 300 wooden wine barrels and thousands of bottles of Brunello laid down for aging, has been open to the public for more than fifty years. During this time more than a million and a half wine lovers have visited our cellars, admiring the collection of bottles that date from 1870 to the present day, bearing witness to a continuity that makes Barbi unique in Italy.
The Brunello produced by Fattoria dei Barbi has won prizes all over Europe since the late nineteenth century, and still today all over the world. The Fattoria has always been a careful custodian of tradition, but also attentive to innovation and a pioneer in every sphere of winemaking. It was the first firm in Montalcino to export bottled wine to France (1817), the first to sell Brunello by mail order (1832), the first to export it to America (1962), England (1969) and Japan (1975). It created the first “Super Tuscan” (Brusco dei Barbi, 1969) and the first single-varietal grappa (Grappa di Bruennlo, 1974). In the 1960s the estate was a pioneer in using organic fertilizers, in the 1990s it created the first “artificial nose” for analyzing wine, and in 2000 was one of the first to use carbon dioxide for cold fermentation of red wines.
The philosophy of the Colombini family and the Fattoria dei Barbi has always been to know and study the most innovative technology and then wed it to the best tradition, so as to improve everything we produce without ever changing its distinguishing characteristics.
