In-Person Worship on Hold

Links to worship and all of our ministries are at www.HosannaTogether.org.  If online worship doesn’t work well for you or you’d like printed copies of the newsletter and bulletin, call the church office at 781-7991 and we’ll send you copies and recordings.

Free Devotion Books Available

Christ in Our Home quarterly devotional books have finally arrived!  Pick up one from the tub outside the front doors of the church building, or call the church office to make other arrangements.  These devotionals provide brief daily scripture readings, reflections, and prayers for each day.  They are free to anyone who would like them.

Bless Your Home for the New Year

Most of us are ready to be done with 2020 and to look forward to a new year.  This is the perfect time to revive a centuries-old practice of blessing homes by writing 20 + C + M + B + 21 over your door with chalk.  C M B stands for Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar, the names attributed to the Magi in Christian lore, but also for the Latin phrase Christus mansionem benedicat, which translates to “May Christ bless this home.”  It’s not going to magically ward off evil spirits, but rituals like this put our faith into something tangible, and help us cling to our trust that God abides with us throughout the year.  After writing the letters, say this or another prayer: O Lord, visit this home with the gladness of your presence. Bless all who live or visit here with the gift of your love; and lead us to carry your love to each other and to all whose lives we touch. Guide, comfort, and strengthen us in peace, through Jesus Christ, now and forever. Amen.

Illustrated Faith Formation

Illustrated Ministry has put together scripture, discussion questions, an activity, and a coloring sheet to go deeper each week this Christmas an Epiphany.  Much of the resource is fitting for both kids and adults who find coloring to be enjoyable and meditative.  Download a free copy of this resource each week at www.hosannatogether.org/coloring.  A coloring page to list hopes, dreams, goals, and intentions is also available.

Death of Fred Kinney

We are sad to share that Hosanna! member Fred Kinney died this week as a result of declining health and a fall over the weekend.  We extend our sympathy to Joyce and the rest of Fred's family.  Preparations are being made to celebrate Fred’s life and mourn our loss, and details will be shared with the congregation as they become available.

Annual Congregational Meeting will be Online January 31

Hosanna! Lutheran Church’s annual meeting will be held January 31 at 11:00am via Zoom Video Conferencing.  Because of the pandemic, our council has chosen to hold this meeting online to allow the greatest number of members to participate.  Attendees will be able to ask questions, discuss, and vote as they would during an in-person meeting.

We are committed to helping members who might struggle with this format to participate by offering 1-on-1 technical assistance, connection to the meeting by regular phone call, and/or other arrangements as applicable in each situation.  Please contact the church office at 816-781-7991 or
cathy@hosannalutheranchurch.org if you would like assistance with any of these options.  We will also hold a trial meeting January 30 at 10:00 for those new to Zoom to make sure they are able to get connected and learn how Zoom works.

The digital copy of the annual report and budget proposal will be distributed to the Happenings e-mail list and on our website on January 17.  A printed copy can be provided to you by request to the church office.

Visit
www.hosannatogether.org/meeting for more information about the logistics, help using Zoom, and to find the annual report and meeting link once they are posted.

Budget Caucus Meeting

A budget caucus will be held on Saturday, January 30 at 11:00am via Zoom.   The budget be discussed at the annual meeting, but this opportunity provides more time for in-depth study and explanation that will allow Sunday's meeting to proceed more quickly.  The meeting link and call-in information will be posted closer to the meeting date at www.hosannatogether.org/meeting

Dialogues on Race Follow-up Conversation

When we wrapped up the Dialogues on Race in September, participants expressed an interest in following up after a few months.  Participants in that study are invited to join us for conversation on Wednesday, January 27 at 7:00pm via Zoom (both sessions will meet together).  The link will be e-mailed to study participants and posted at www.hosannatogether.org/race.  There’s no homework, and no need to RSVP.
