Earlier today, Bethlehem Central Superintendent Jody Monroe shared some valuable resources to help families discuss the troubling images and news about the angry mob that broke into the U.S. Capitol yesterday. We think it is important to pass these links along to those in our community who may not receive district emails.
In her words: “With students at home this week and the events in Washington D.C. unfolding in real time, on TV and on social media, there was no time to prepare them for what they were seeing, hearing and experiencing. That’s why I want to share some resources to help families, teachers and staff who may be struggling today with how to answer children’s questions or who are looking for ways to help reassure our students at a time of great uncertainty.”

 We know these times have been challenging for teens, and that’s why we’ve put together a special pick-me-up just for them. Registration is now open for our Just for Me: Teen Book Boxes, which are filled with books and fun novelties for teens to keep and enjoy. Our boxes are co-sponsored by the Friends of Bethlehem Public Library.
Teen Book Boxes will be ready for pickup or delivery in February and are only available to BCSD residents in grades 6-12; one box per household. Supplies are limited. Click here to sign up for your Book Box.

 Chill out and get crafty with us when school’s out for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We’ll be gathering virtually over Zoom to work on a cute penguin needlepoint craft together Monday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. Stich, sip cocoa (not provided) and enjoy some face time with friends.  What happens when a winter wonderland turns out to be not so wonderful? You look for a way out! On Monday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m., we're hosting a virtual escape room for adults where participants will race against time to escape a winter wonderland by decoding the locks so they won’t be caught out in the cold. Live tutoring with HelpNow
|

 Is your child struggling in school? We have resources that can help. Bethlehem cardholders have access to HelpNow by Brainfuse, an easy and intuitive learning resource for all ages and levels with personalized homework help in core subjects (math, reading, writing, science and social studies), as well as SAT preparation.
There is a skill-building tool for all types of learning styles – from flashcards to practice quizzes and videos. Live one-on-one online tutoring is available in math, science, writing and other subjects for elementary, middle school, high school and college students from 2-11 p.m. daily. All Brainfuse tutors have at least a four-year degree and are background checked.

Library hours and updates

The library currently remains closed to in-person browsing, but curbside pickup is available during the following expanded hours:
- Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
- Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
- Saturday, 1-5 p.m.

Board of Trustees to meet

 The library Board of Trustees will meet virtually Monday, Jan 11, at 6 p.m. The meeting will be broadcast live on our website and YouTube channel. Public comments can be submitted to the director before and during the meeting via e-mail (director@bethpl.org).
