Welcome to Granite City Folk Society's virtual concert season.
We can't get together in a physical space for a while, so we're supporting a series of on-line concerts.
Our artists will be performing via streaming services, some from their own homes--a new
kind of close-up music, even if we're all over the continent.
Streaming platforms will vary, so note the links for the individual events.

There is no ticketing for these performances, but the artists will be operating their own virtual tip jars. Be generous--we're all running on fumes these days.

All shows are on Thursdays at 7:30 to 8:30 PM CST.

~~ TONIGHT ~~
Vicky Emerson
Thurs, Jan 7. 7:30

Singer-songwriter Vicky Emerson works the territory between contemporary country and Americana--think Roseanne Cash, Alison Kraus, or Emmylou Harris and you're in the right vocal and lyrical neighborhood.

"Classic country crooning straight outta South Minneapolis that sounds so timeless it could be Nashville or Memphis, 1933. 'Good Enough' and the title track are gorgeous should-be country radio hits, while the likes of 'In The Pines' and 'Disappear' are powered by a stop-you-in-your-tracks voice that's alternately sweet, sinister and sensual." --Jim Walsh, Southwest Journal

"Emerson plies the emotional depth of Lucinda Williams, Bobbie Gentry, Loretta Lynn and other tempestuous torch singers with her own air of dark defiance."
--Lee Zimmerman, Goldmine Magazine

". . . one of the pre-eminent independent singer/songwriters working in Americana."
--Jason Hillenburg, No Depression

It's a booking coincidence, honest:
Three upcoming concerts featuring
fiddle-guitar duos. But don't look for the old same stuff--these six
musicians will offer a range of styles that will make you forget the
instrumentation.

Castle Ridge
Thurs, Jan 21. 7:30

This rootsy Iowa-based duo's repertory offers instrumental and vocal music ranging from bluegrass and old-time country through swing. Mark Clark (guitar), Joy Ward Clark (fiddle) play "fast-paced breakdowns, beautiful waltzes, and songs of loss and celebration." And maybe if we ask nicely, Mark will do some thumbpicking on his nice archtop, built just down the Interstate by Alexandria luthier Terry Kennedy.

Deana Bistodeau and Shane Sutton
Thurs, Feb 4. 7:30

Nashville-based Deanna Bistodeau has Minnesota roots--she won the State Fair fiddling contest a half-dozen times, studied violin at the U, and appeared on Prairie Home Companion.
Singer-songwriter-guitarist Shane Sutton is a Nashville veteran whose resume also includes singing on the soundtracks of Jetsons: The Movie and Lilo & Stitch. From the combination we can expect anything from Texas-style fiddling to contemporary-country.

Donations are tax deductible and offer donor recognition & thanks. This is not a profitable enterprise. Our ticket sales typically do not quite cover musician compensation, much less printing, advertising, theater rental, insurance, etc., etc. We have in recent years been fortunate to receive modest grants to help defray expenses, we have received in-kind donations from our season sponsors, and we have also enjoyed increasing support from patrons such as yourself. Collectively, these are the pieces of the financial puzzle that keep our boat afloat. Please consider a donation. Any amount is greatly appreciated and is tax deductible.
