VIRTUAL PROGRAMS
OFF TO A GREAT START

Coronation Fitness Instructors pose together on our new "set". They are wearing masks and lifting weights and other fitness equipment.
We have just completed our first week of virtual programs and we are off to a flying start. Thanks to funding from the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility our fitness instructors are back with full force. Teaching now is very different for them but they have adjusted very well and they are back doing what they do best!

For members who have never been to our group fitness classes before, now is a really good time to get started. With virtual classes, you can take away the nerves of having other people watching you, and you can see what it’s like to do a workout run by our instructors and, who are motivating you while you exercise.

Please visit our webpage for all the links to the classes and we hope to see you there.

With that said, there are a few items that have come to light this past week and I would like to share with you our top tips and tricks to attending the virtual fitness classes:
Join the Class at least 5 minutes before the class starts
This will give you time to correct any issues and hear what the instructor has to say about the class you are about to participate in, e.g., equipment you will need etc.
Own your personal warm-up
Spend a few minutes getting your body ready before class begins. Even though the class will have a built-in warm-up, we all have different bodies and needs. Be responsible for your body and warm up before class. You’ll get more out of it if you’re warm and ready when the class starts.
Clear your space
I know it’s a pain to move furniture. But it’s way better to give yourself all the space you need to complete a workout, rather than limiting your range of motion and risking kicking, punching or falling on a coffee table. Ouch!
Seek Variety
It’s usually not a good idea to repeat the same type of movement every day of the week. Your body gets used to it, you get less results, and you risk overworking the same muscles. It’s ideal to do a mixture of cardio, strength and flexibility each week and guess what? with 20 classes a week, we have that covered!
Do not look to the side while doing core work on the floor
Do not strain your neck to look to the side while doing crunches or other core moves on the ground. Stop what you’re doing, turn to watch the instructor demo the first couple of repetitions, then get into the moves.
Take advantage of interaction
It’s so good to say hi, give feedback and communicate with your instructor and the group. Don’t be shy. Participate, engage and be an active part of your workout group. You’ll be glad you did.
Get to know the 'Mute' icon
When the class is just about to start your instructor will remind you to mute your microphone. This will block out any background noise. You never know what is going to happen with your cat/dog, the neighbor or a random FedEx driver. To mute your microphone, select the microphone icon in the bottom left corner of the Zoom call. When the icon has a slash through it, it's muted. To unmute yourself when you need to speak, select the microphone icon again.
Mute icon depicting a microphone: Audio is NOT muted. Press to mute. Unmute icon depicting a microphone with a diagonal stroke through it: Audio is muted. Press to unmute.
Get to know the Speaker and Gallery View
This is a huge tip. On the top right of your screen you will see View. When you click on 'view' a box will pop up showing Speaker or Gallery view.
Gallery View lets you see thumbnail displays of all the participants, in a grid pattern.
We recommend you click on the Speaker or, in our case the Instructor you will now see the instructor in a full screen.
