When Disney launched its Disney+ streaming service, most of us imagined it would remain family-friendly. However, Disney has upended that idea with the introduction of mature content through its Star content, coming in February. This week, we'll explore what Disney Star is, what it's not, and what content you can expect to see from it.

Streamer's Spotlight: More on Disney+ Star

Although Disney+ Star is launching in February, Disney failed to give much information about the new service until recently. Here's everything we know so far.

What Is Disney+ Star

Hulu had long planned to launch internationally. Now that Disney fully owns Hulu, it's proceeding with those plans. However, the international version of Hulu will now be named "Star". Except in the US, where Hulu already exists as a separate service.

Stateside, Disney is instead shifting some of that content over to Disney+ as a new package called "Star".

If you're familiar with Disney+, you'll note that the service includes several themed "packages" of content. For example, you can browse all Star Wars content or all Marvel content. Disney+ Star for US subscribers is just that: a new package of content.

The key difference here is that Disney+ Star content is not a package of movies and TV shows within one universe. Instead, it's a mature-rated collection of content that Disney owns, that you'd get on Star internationally, but that will now be available through Disney+ instead.

What's Available Through Disney+ Star?

Disney+ Star's content will more than double the existing Disney+ library of content. It's adding over 1,000 new titles to Disney+.

Much of the Star content includes series and movies that Disney acquired when it bought FOX. Consequently, that means heavy-hitting and well-regarded series on their way to Disney+ in February, such as Bob's Burgers, Kingsman, Atlanta, Deadpool 2, The X-Files, and many others you'll want to check out.

Will Disney+ Star Cost Extra?

Thankfully, no! Disney is merging this content into Disney+ at no additional cost. Whether Disney will choose to use this as an excuse to up the price later this year, however, is a different story.
