Diving into Drawdown Georgia with John Lanier

Friday, January 15
10:00 - 11:00 am

Join Sustainable Newton as we kick off 2021 with Ray C. Anderson Foundation Executive Director John A. Lanier, exploring Drawdown Georgia. Launched in October 2020, Drawdown Georgia is the first state-centered effort to crowd solve for climate change, with 20 high-impact solutions tailored to Georgia’s unique natural, economic, and social resources.

We'll be asking John to share some of the history behind Drawdown Georgia and the Ray C. Anderson Foundation which helped launch the effort. We'll also find out what Newton County businesses, governments, and citizens can do to help meet the program's aggressive -- but achievable -- carbon-reduction targets.

Events You May Have Missed

Drawdown Georgia Virtual Civic Dinner

On December 7, we hosted a virtual dinner for the Drawdown Georgia Civic Dinners series.  Our evening featured local farmers who provided recipes and meal kit ordering for guests wanting to sample farm-fresh food grown right here in our community.  Click here for more information about the participating farms and Drawdown Georgia.

As part of the evening, our 30 guests also split into breakout rooms to discuss personal food-related personal climate action using discussion topics provided by Civic Dinners.  You can check out the recording of this amazing event here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEJy-lDyNjw&feature=emb_title

Blog Posts

Our fantastic board President, Maurice Carter, has recently written some great blog posts you should check out!

"We Are All In this Together" -  See a summary of all the great work Sustainable Newton was able to complete in 2020 despite dealing with being in a virtual world.

"Food for Thought: Get Down and Dirty" - We'll need every ounce of creative engineering we can muster to solve our climate crisis.  But technology is only part of the solution.  Some of the most critical adjustments are nothing more than going back to how our great grandparents did things.  As Woody Harrelson says in the film Kiss the Ground: “The solution’s right here under our feet, and it’s as old as dirt.”  He’s talking about farming the way our great grandparents and their contemporaries did it.

"Now, How WILL We Change?" - In our 24 Hours of Reality:  Countdown to the Future presentation on October 10, we asked and answered three key questions about humanity's response to the current climate crisis: Must we change? Can we change? Will we change? Our resounding "Yes!" to all three questions begs a fourth:  "How will we change?"  That's where Drawdown Georgia comes in.
