January 14, 2021

We are excited to announce the approved 2021 budget establishes wage increases for eligible employees based on the salary structure that their jobs are in. This means that each grade’s minimum, midpoint, and maximum rate was adjusted based on market increases.

The General (GEN) salary structure was increased by 1.5%. Correspondingly, employees whose jobs are in the GEN salary structure will receive a 1.5% wage increase.  The Trade/Technical (TRD) salary structure was increased by 2%.  Employees whose jobs are in the TRD salary structure will receive a 2% wage increase. The salary structure adjustments and the employees’ increases go into effect January 1, 2021.

Following this challenging year, this is an impactful statement that puts our employees first and sets high standards for Salt Lake County. We are proud of our talented workforce.

Please Note: Due to budget uncertainties, a decision to award an annual merit increase has been deferred until mid-2021. The current 2021 wage increases are based only on market salary structure adjustments and not on year-end Performance Appraisal scores. However, Performance Appraisals are still required, and Managers will be meeting with individual employees to provide these.

The County benefits package was enhanced with a significant increase in the guaranteed issue of life insurance elective coverage, from $150,000 to $200,000.  Additionally, we’re pleased that there is no increase in employee premiums for medical or dental plans, in a year where the average increase was 4%.

The other significant benefit change going into effect, is with the Vacation Leave Rollover. This year, Vacation hours in excess of 320 will be retained and available for use or payout until Dec 2022.

If you have questions about which salary structure your job is in or any other concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your Manager, Payroll/HR Coordinator, Benefits, or HR Consultant.
