There are plenty of activities that are starting up again and lots of new ways to get active and involved in community sport and recreation.

Looking forward: How to be an inclusive club

Inclusion is an attitude embedded into your club’s culture. You don’t need to start with big changes and disability specific programs. These things will come when the time is right. The important thing is to start somewhere. We have created a brochure about how to be a disability inclusive club.

RMIT University Table Tennis
Table Tennis is not only a popular sport, but it's one of the most fun, inclusive and accessible sports there is. It's for people of all ages and abilities, and it's one of the easiest sports to maintain a healthy social distancing while playing.

Sports Central All Abilities Cheer
Pressure Cheerleading and Dance have created a new cheerleading program for people with disabilities. The class is 45 minutes once per week and will teach skills related to cheerleading and tumbling.

Sport for fun
Inviting people of all ages to these inclusive, fun and affordable weekly sport skills sessions. Now in three great locations, and offering separate age groups for maximum benefit. This program is all about FUN! It is a non-competitive environment and a great opportunity for kids, teens and adults to play sport, socialise and stay active.

Reclink and AAA Play Activity Cards
Reclink and AAA Play have developed a set of exercise cards that showcase a range of exercises that can be done from the comfort of home. The cards provide access to guided exercise for those who would prefer an offline option - catering to all fitness levels and for all abilities.

Dance & Roll – back for 2021 


The popular Dance & Roll classes return for 2021, with sessions being held online and face-to-face. Learn a range of dance styles from the comfort of your own home, or with others!

Unified Basketball launched in Victoria

Eltham Wildcats and Melbourne Inner East Special Olympics Region have launched a new and exciting program called Unified Basketball. Unified is an iconic program that promotes and creates social inclusion between individuals, with and without intellectual disabilities, through sport.

Mental wellbeing in sport pilot

During 2020, VicHealth engaged researchers at Monash University to conduct a review to better understand what work is being undertaken to support positive mental health and wellbeing in community sport across Victoria.

To help the sports sector to select a provider offering safe and effective programs, VicHealth and Monash University have launched a new resource.

Summer by the sea

Each year during the January school holidays, Coastcare Victoria, delivered by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), coordinates the delivery of hundreds of free ‘Summer by the Sea’ activities all along the coastline.

In 2021, in order to keep Victorians safe, the program was online!

Autism Family Swim Event at Knox

This is open to all ages of the autism community. It is a safe and supported environment where the pool facilities are closed to the public and only open to the autism community.

Special Olympics Australia MER invite you to a celebration of our return to sport and an invitation for new athletes.

AAA Ambassador News
This month the AAA Ambassadors and AAA Play team brushed up on their public speaking skills with a workshop facilitated by Sarah from Improve your Public Speaking.

Our ambassadors generously give their time to advocate the importance and accessibility of sport and recreation, so we wanted an opportunity to give something back.
