This project could not have been done without the very useful ward funding provided through our Council. Many thanks for this fund. As a result we have just had a very successful tournament for Australia Day. A full house of 24 teams of 4 people from around the state enjoyed a fantastic dinner of weber lamb roast dinner and Pavlova deserts.
The club aims is to further upgrade our kitchen and seating area with new Carpets and Furniture. This will bring us up to date as a perfect venue for  functions and events.

People present at an airport in South Australia must also wear a face mask.

Face masks are available to the community and can be collected from the Council Offices in Burra and Eudunda.

SA Healthy Towns Challenge

The SA Healthy Towns Challenge is a grants program for regional and rural towns to develop preventive health programs within their community, which will have measurable benefits (over 12 months) to the community’s health and wellbeing. Successful projects aim to increase access or opportunity for the community to make healthier choices or participate in activities with a prevention focus.

Grants of up to $50,000 each will be provided to a minimum of five towns (or groups of towns) each year for four years (until 2021), across the six regional SA Local Health Networks:

The SA Healthy Towns Challenge is part of the SA government’s Healthy Communities Program, which supports community-wide health and prevention action to help reduce preventable disease and injury and improve health and wellbeing.

At the end of each funding round the SA Healthy Towns Challenge Award will be presented to the town that achieves the most improvements towards healthier living.

Final Round of Healthy Towns Grants Now Open

18/01/2021 | Stephen Wade MLC

Regional and rural communities are encouraged to apply for grants of up to $50,000 to help improve the health and wellbeing of their towns.

Minister for Health and Wellbeing Stephen Wade said through the SA Healthy Towns Challenge, the Marshall Liberal Government has committed $1 million to support regional communities with local initiatives.

“Many of the risk factors for chronic disease can be prevented or reduced through communities working together to support a healthy environment and we encourage communities to participate in SA’s Healthy Towns Challenge,” Minister Wade said.

“Maintaining good health and wellbeing is a shared responsibility between government, individuals and communities more broadly and through the Healthy Towns Challenge we have already invested almost $1 million into projects and community-led organisations across the state.”

As part of the fourth and final round of the program, successful applicants will receive up to $50,000 in June 2021 to develop programs to improve the health and wellbeing of their communities, which will have measurable benefits over 12 months.

Wellbeing SA Chief Executive Lyn Dean said many chronic illnesses such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease share the same risk factors and are preventable.

“By actions such as increasing physical activity, eating healthier, quitting smoking and cutting back on alcohol, South Australians can enjoy an improved quality of life,” Ms Dean said.

“Successful Healthy Town Challenge projects in the past have aimed to increase access or create opportunities in the community to make healthier choices and participate in activities that encourage physical activity, healthy eating and positive mental health and wellbeing.

“Funded projects have ranged from community gardens, cooking lessons, walking trails, outdoor gyms and bike programs and I am looking forward to seeing the applications we receive this year.”

Applications close on Friday 26 March 2021. Visit the SA Healthy Towns Challenge website for more information and to apply.

Heritage Grants - Round 3 is Now Open

If you own a State Heritage Place or a place in a State Heritage Area and are planning a conservation project that will help to conserve or protect significant fabric or heritage values, you may be eligible to receive a SA heritage grant. As well as the urgency and importance of conservation work, other aspects that may be considered when allocating funding includes the extent to which the project contributes to:

  • heritage trades and training - works that use traditional trades and skills and/or support specialised training
  • adaptive reuse - conservation works that support compatible new uses or continued use of a Place
  • places at risk - works to prevent further deterioration and conserve fabric at risk
  • remote and very remote places - works that support the regions.

Funding is provided on a dollar-for-dollar basis and is available for private owners, companies, local councils & community groups who are owners of State Heritage Places, and owners or businesses within a State Heritage Area. State Heritage Places owned by the State Government are not eligible.

Vivaldi in the Vines -
Sunday 28th March 2021

Vivaldi in the Vines. Don't miss this fundraiser for St Mary's Anglican Church Burra.
NEW DATES - Adelaide | Sevenhill | Burra
Early bird prices until February 28.

The Easter Concert will feature The Adelaide Baroque Orchestra playing on original instruments and one of Australia’s leading young singers, the Counter Tenor Max Riebl.
Easter usually means many performances of Handels “Messiah” or one of the Bach passions. However these concerts offer a very special magnificent performance of a Haydn masterpiece and a Vivaldi rarity.
Haydn’s “The Seven Last Words of Christ” was commissioned in 1786 for the Good Friday service at the Oratorio de la Santa Cueva in Cadiz, Spain. As a work specifically designed for a specific time it is rarely heard. However such was its popularity at the time that Haydn prepared 3 versions, the original full orchestral version, a choral version and a chamber version for sting quartet. For this rare performance we are pleased to present members of the Adelaide Baroque Orchestra in the latter version.
To compliment and continue the story of the crucifixion the Haydn will be followed by Vivaldi’s sublime setting of the Stabat Mater with Counter Tenor, Max Riebl as soloist. The Stabat Mater is one of the most famous medieval religious poems depicting the anguish of Mary at the foot of the cross. Set by numerous composers over the centuries, the Vivaldi ranks as his only setting of the text and one of the most beautiful.
